As others have said 72 is no age, TBH I didn't realise he was that old?

Doesn't seem that long ago the sun were ridiculing him on their back page.......

A top manager at club level and highly regarded within the game. Sadly the gutter press did their level best to ensure his unsuccessful reign as England manager was ridiculed to the max, but he handled it with good grace and humour. He had the respect of many.

One of the games good guys. RIP GT

Incredible club manager - one of this country's best. I knew he had a good record but was gob smacked when they mentioned yesterday about Watford getting three promotions plus a cup final under five years of his leadership.

First England manager who got completely out of order treatment from garbage "media".

RIP

Amen to that.

He always seemed thoroughly 'down to earth' and devoid of any ego and, by all accounts, he was a brilliant 'man manager'.

I wasn't the biggest fan of his brand of football at Watford, but his achievements there, at a then lowly club, were astonishing and no-one can take that away from his memory.

As stated previously, 72 is no age at all these days.

Very sad indeed.

Always liked him, what they did was disgusting. A humble bloke who wasn't afraid to show the reality behind the scenes which many would cower from.

RiP big man.

And since then the media have ridiculed/hounded/derided every England manager since then in some way. Then wonder why the top coaches of the world don't want the job.

It really is THE worst job in world football. I've always said it. Unreasonable expectations, pretty average squad (compared to expectations) for past decade at least and no matter what you do "media" will always find way to ridicule you in bona fide school bully style. Why would ANYONE bother with crap like that?

"Turnip head" for crying out loud. I would never tolerate my children calling anyone something like that yet it was apparently quite alright to print it on "newspaper". Jeezes.

Just one of a multitude of reasons why I would never pay ANY money to ANY of Murdoch's sprawling media conglomeration.
