Costa has since basically gone on strike in the last three days in order to push the move through.

This is getting serious.

But will it be good or bad news for city?

How is it Chelsea always come up trumps when selling players?

Knowing our record for moving on players City will prob be the only team to lose a player to China on a loan and end up paying their wages for the next few years.

The money no doubt is attractive to some but who in the right mind wants to watch a league made up predominantly of mediocre Asian players.

Brilliant news for us if he leaves. Or sulks and strops because he isn't allowed to leave.

Can't see it myself however. Most footballers might have a moan if they want out of a contract but they are professional enough to realise it may put off potential suitors if they don't give their all.

Regards China, it does appear they want to make a headline signing which they hope more players will follow. A bit like when Beckham went to the MLS. Perhaps Oscar was the first one, as he is still a relatively young player in his prime.

Just wish that Bony or Kolarov or Nasri or any number of our deadwood squad players would get signed up, preferably for exorbitant fees, but just getting them off our books would be a blessing

You may well be right. But if the Chinese people take to football in their own country like the Europeans and South Americans, then they are in it for the long haul. Problem still in the USA is the general population still aren't that bothered compared to the other sports on offer

When you think of the engineering projects they are currently undertaking and the efforts and the cost of these (the Spratley islands for example), football just represents a different challenge to overcome and the money will be made available to address this.

As you say, "they don't back down on their plans".

I take the point on board but I would question why spend so much on foreign players if that is your goal, surely investment in their own talents' development should be at the forefront of their thoughts?

Within Chinese culture.

Not all Chinese business moves are about something like winning the World Cup.

It's PROFESSIONAL football so I've always thought that all the talk about "mercenaries" is bit silly. It's a short career that can end any given day and you have no qualifications for any profession outside football and very few really end up making any decent career as managers. So you grap every single penny you can. I never blame any professional going after money. Loyalty is for supporters.

HOWEVER it's STILL football and it's their competitiveness that got them where they are. If, as is the case with Costa, they can get ALMOST as much money and still play truly competitive football I would always choose the competition.

I think our Chinese connections (all the way to the top) have something to do with us not being raided, and no rumour of raids. Maybe we will let them have a cast off or two but I honestly think our stars are untouchable for Chinese clubs.

They're hardly gonna win the world cup with Chinese mega stars Costa, oscar and tevez.

England have some of the best stars in our league and have done for years, if anything its seen to restrict development of young English players hindering the national team.

Nothing like the USA, they are targeting current world stars not, Great players from 10 yrs ago. If they get Costa, or say Kun then that is when it will get very interesting indeed. The wages being paid do have a thing common with USA, they are massive.
