Believe it or not, Jurgen Klopp has done no better at Liverpool than Louis van Gaal did with Man United

Van Gaal's tenure at Old Trafford was largely seen as a failure. So do we need to change the way we talk about Klopp?

After 82 games in charge of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp's record is no better than Louis van Gaal's was at the same stage of his tenure at Manchester United.

The German watched his side go down 1-0 to Southampton on Wednesday night, a second defeat in five days and one that sees them exit the EFL Cup at the semi-final stage. That loss also extended a serious downturn in form for Liverpool: the only victory in their last seven games came in the FA Cup replay against Plymouth Argyle who play in English football's fourth tier.

After 82 games, Klopp has overseen 41 victories, 24 draws and 17 losses - giving him a win ratio of 50 per cent.

During Van Gaal's first 82 games at Old Trafford, a tenure which was eventually seen as a failure, the Dutchman oversaw 41 wins, 21 draws and 20 losses - also giving him a win ratio of 50 per cent. Van Gaal's United ended up winning the FA Cup last season but that was not enough for the manager to avoid the sack with the club failing to qualify for the Champions League.

While Klopp has transformed Liverpool's style of play since taking over in October 2015, and has seen his team tipped as title contenders at points this season, he will be concerned by their recent form. "We don’t have the points we want, that’s not the problem, that’s how it is," Klopp said after Wednesday's defeat. "We know what we want to do, we know what we have to do and we know about the football we want to play, so that’s all good."

With the German now watching his Liverpool team slip down the table and with their only realistic chance of silverware coming in the FA Cup, he'll surely be hoping he doesn't go the same way as his old rival

Just shows the influence the media has, Klopp so far has got an easy ride to some extent, and has been their (the medias) darling, Butthead wasn't.
An awful lot of people are incapable of thinking for themselves.

Only been tipped as title contenders by the sycophantic media. No one with a brain tipped them.

I've still not heard one bit of criticism of Klopp on any level through the media.

They still talk about him as if he's 12 points clear at the top of the league.

It's about time we start to flex some of our muscles and put in some serious performances to shake up the old guard, once again.

Let them talk.

He's definitely not as good as the aura around him suggests.

Although I'm not going to go too deep into criticism of him whilst our ability to beat Liverpool remains unlikely in every fixture we have against them.

I much prefer Klopp than Maureen and he's not spent half the money the sour faced cunt has. But the clear disparity of reporting between both of them and Pep is very alarming. Away from the PL they've had clear officiating, only let down by the minor lapse, proved by the struggles they've had against a semi organised decent team. In the PL they've had so many calls that were clearly only made because of who they are, yet Pep gets hounded even though everybody can see that the turds are having us over.

The two Rag clubs get an easy time, until the point that the clubs direct otherwise.

Agree. Take Klopp over Mourinho any day. To be honest, he doesnt deserve beating with a shitty stick because of his record after barely 15 months against any manager as each club and situation is different. Of course, that just brings us onto the treatment of Pep and City as a whole which is nothing short of disgraceful. Managers are too harshly judged too quickly IMO and most of it is unwarranted.

Only ones that can't beat them are our first team. Our kids hammer them.

Hate to say this but, in a way should we (i.e. City) take a leaf out of Donald Trump's book ??

He's targeted the US media as being all sorts of everything that's wrong and a sinister influence throughout their country. One of his aides has just told the US media, in no uncertain terms, to actually "shut their mouths", so there's no pussyfooting about there and he's virtually declared war on the press.

It's all typical Trump stuff, but a little bit of this approach, by our Club, sadly wouldn't go amiss, to my mind.

Don't be daft.

IT is important to be aware of the foibles of 'The Press' and to be on Media watch, which i agree on. That is one thing, but it is another to think that the Press will respect some upstart Political aid to the President of the US and not give this orange faced Charlatan a run for his money. The more they scold the Press, the more the Press will hound them.

Not that I want to be bitchy about big DT but have you noticed how the guy is looking very ,very tired already, with puffy eyes ? He is under stress already .

I'm not being daft ZC.

The media have had a field day against us for nearly ten years now, hence the 'de facto' institutionalisation of their hatred and bias and we've just taken it it on the chin and both said and done very little to fight it in this timescale.

It's time the Club started to get stuck into their ribs in a more vigorous and public manner, even if it means taking some of the worst instances to Court.

In some way, shape or form, the media have to be brought to book.

The Western media is, without doubt, the biggest disease in Western democracy. Slowly followed by cunts like Trump.
