[POLL] The Greatest Ever?

Postby Slim » Sun Feb 26, 2017 9:47 pm

Having no proof otherwise, I am convinced this City team is our greatest ever. Certainly the greatest in my lifetime, maybe someone of the old guard have a different opinion.

But that being said, surely then this team contains our greatest ever player, right? To my mind it comes down to 1 of 3 players, but I've thrown a couple more in there because I think an argument could be made for them.

I wasn't quite there when Col was around and can't really appreciate those teams. However, Silva has been immense and the best player I've seen in the league, regardless of what era. He's only missing a European Cup with us but with the cups he's won at international level, you have to say he's right up there with the greatest.

Put it one way, if he was at the Rags, Barca or Real, he would be classed as one of the greatest in the world, not just at club level.

I was lucky enough to see Colin Bell play when I was a kid , he is the best English player we have ever had imo .Vincent Kompany the best center half and leader , he was the best in the world in his position for a couple of years imo , David Silva absolute world class the best I have ever seen at City unbelievable footballer ! Yaya the best all round player I have ever seen in a Man City shirt absolute mountain of a player for us despite his off field issues which are hopefully behind him but not forgotten ! My vote though goes to Aguero , so many words describe his unbelievable talent and goals pure world class just about scratches the surface .
Not really here

Can I add Zab's to that list. Maybe not the finest footballer, such as Big Dave, but immense nonetheless.

Tough to choose. Colin was always my hero through the seventies, which was by and large after we'd won stuff.
But for me Silva makes an art form out of the ordinary mundane run of the mill tasks like controlling a ball on the right side to take it away from his marker.
He has vision and precision. His weight of pass is sublime. He just makes the extraordinary look routine.
Love watching him.

And he does it under the pressure of being kicked around unprotected in an age where that is not meant to happen.

When he is on song we play teams off the park.

I was honestly thinking when I posted this, I bet Lee is going to mention Tevez.

Silva still does things in matches that leave me scratching my head wondering how he did it - regularly. One of the greatest players I've seen.
It's not often I can say I'm too young for something, but Colin was a bit ahead of my time, so I can't comment on comparisons (and there are too many differences in circumstances for like for like comparisons anyway). Silva gets my vote.

No. No box for the Zabman.

He's a wonderful player but the Greatest Ever? I don't think so.

I'm bound by emotion to say Colin Bell although I certainly acknowledge the greatness of this team.

Tony Book's final season in charge was also a great team which probably would have won the league with a fully fit Colin Bell.

Watson and Doyle at centre half, Hartford, Bell, Tueart and Barnes, Kidd and Royle up front etc.

My thoughts are the same. Love the guy to bits. An absolute legend for us. But he's nowhere near the best ever for us.

Never thought I'd see a better player than Bell. It almost feels dirty to say it but Silva is that man. Countless honours for us and at international level. It's a privilege to watch him play. Bell's achievements were cut short admittedly but I doubt he would have matched Big Dave.
On a side note Yaya is probably a closer match to Bell and again has arguably achieved more. Another great player.
Hopefully Aguero will go on to be the highest goalscorer in the history of our club.
We've been lucky to see them all.

Silva for me but Bell was before my time.

Agree about zaba, a city legend like dunne and morrison etc but no where near our greatest ever player.

I also dont think Aguero is near to it either despite being a city legend too.

Silva and Yaya from this generation, silva takes it for a) not been an arse off the field and b) defying the stereotypical trend of having to be a giant to compete and all that nonsense.

This is exactly why I voted for Ya Ya....the 45 min video on you tube of his skills and goals, just puts him ahead for me...and he always came up with the goods in the biggest games.
He had a bad 18 months under Pellers, but a lot was happening in his life...losing his brother etc.
Silva is a very very close second, and if he had 10 more goals a season in him he'd be top.
But it's the big man for me and for coming back from almost falling off a cliff to being the first name on the team sheet at his age is nothing less that miraculous !
