Premier League clubs in line for shirt sleeve sponsorship

Up to 10 Premier League clubs could soon sport sponsorship on their shirt sleeves, according to Sporting Group International's CEO Adrian Wright.

The Daily Mirror reports advertising space for the 2017-18 season on the right shirt sleeve -- as the Premier League logo will feature on the left -- could be worth up to £10 million ($12.4m) a season, as it is valued at around 20 percent of the main shirt sponsorship deal.

Wright said: "It's the first time in EPL history the sleeve can be sold and hopefully it will be the first time that one brand has been seen on multiple shirts from potentially eight-10 clubs."

Greed. Greed. Greed.

The sponsors are fools in my opinion. I could name Etihad Airways and Chevrolet (because of their distinctive logo) as sponsors of PL clubs but that is all. I couldn't even name any other of the logos that appear behind people being interviewed post match. But maybe other people are more easily influenced by advertisers than I am.

This is what interests me:

I'm wondering whether this is going to be an alternative way for the PL to get sponsorship, rather than sponsoring the name of the league itself. Possibly a single sponsor has been sought, who will offer a 'take-it-or-leave-it' amount to clubs individually (weighted by what the PL/sponsor believes individual clubs are worth), so the Rags could be offered £15 million, but someone like Bournemouth only £500K for the exact same deal, with no way to shop around for an alternative.

My money's on Fox Group, with individual brands tailored to particular teams with disproportional support in certain markets (like a South Korean brand for Spurs, Palace and/or Swansea).

Thats different, its like saying we had kappa as a sleeve sponsorship when they were making our shirts and had the logo down the side.

I assume the sponsorship will be more akin to the championship where its different brands on the sleeve than on the front and again different to the manufacturer.

No doubt it will be sports gambling companies that take most of these spots and if the league permit it there is no way all 20 wont take advantage of it.

If we want to be different and make a stance we should give it to a charity organisation or something.

DIfferent from the premier league and its sleeve not front of the jersey. You know what i mean though.

City in the community or something like that could be there, i have no idea if we even still have that but im sure we have similar.

Then again we might need the 10m to balance the books.

How about let someone sponsor it for 10m and give all the money to City in the Community?

If we were so inclined, could we refuse to have the sponsorship logos on our sleeves ??

Genuine question.

I heard a rumour that during the Bernstein days they were being mooted as a sponsor for us - any truth in that?
