The bones of a good team,but....

Postby Green & Blue » Thu Mar 02, 2017 12:46 am

It's obvious for all to see we have some serious talent on our hands here at the moment.

As well as that we have a few really top players who are starting to look like they are as good as finished at this level and more worryingly a few players who should be in their prime who look totally out of their depth when called upon.

If say we could make four top quality additions during the summer and lose a few players to trim the squad who would be your inclusions/exclusions to the squad?

I have my own opinion and I'll post later.

Veratti, Alaba, Bellerin and an experienced centre back that can play a bit, PL experience would be beneficial, nobody really springs to mind, well there's one but the chances of it happening are minimal, Boateng.

We are losing three full backs, a back up keeper, our holding midfielder and a back up right winger at the very least in the summer as all are out of contract. So they all need to be replaced, add in that we only have two centre halves plus Kompany means i reckon we need a min of 7 players, thats before we consider replacing our first choice(or old first choice) keeper or replacing any other departing players.

Huge summer for pep.

2 Quality full backs a quality centre half and a goalkeeper are the 4 i would go for that would all go straight into the team.

I have no idea really who its going to be very difficult.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As it stands, it is our starting keeper who will be out of contract in the summer. Our by then 34 year old back up will have another three cosy years on his contract.

I imagine some of those will extend their contracts.

From our loanees, I think only two can be realistically in consideration for a squad place next season, Denayer (is he good enough & does Pep even rate him?) and Roberts (is he ready & willing to replace Navas?). I think it is fair to assume that Hart, Mangala, Nasri and Bony are write-offs in one way or another. I doubt that any of the kids out on loan are anywhere near ready for the first team, with the exception of Enes Ünal. Although I reckon it would be best to give him another season out on loan at least, lest he ends up in a similar situation to Kelechi here, riding the bench at the best of times.

I can see Pep going for one RB, one LB and a couple of midfielders, because that's how he rolls.

I have this feeling at the back of my mind, that despite all the noises to the contrary, Hart will be back.

Can you get it from the back of your mind and into the front of Pep's mind please
It may be my last year as a season ticket holder as it just doesn't seem the same with so few English and local players (but I said that last year)

The last thing we should be doing is paying serious money to fill all the so called problem slots we have. One or two yes but it's time, in the next yeyar or so,to be bringing through some of the great talent we have in the youth ranks.

Think they'll be leaving in droves in the summer, for reasons of - out of contract, out of contention and out of patience.
Could be half the squad, which would offer some serious opportunities for buying quality replacements and playing time for the youngsters.

Why can't he? Dele Ali came from an even lower level and seens to doing ok. I think sometimes City will not take a risk, look our academy, hardly anyone gets a sniff. If we had signed Ali instead of Spurs I think it's safe to say he wouldn't be anywhere near our first team.

Would love if bringing the young lads in was the answer. Genuine question, is there enough quality for 3 defenders and a keeper there to improve us considerably?

To make a proper title challenge next season that's probably the minimum what we need.
