According to Southampton manager Claude Puel -- who spent 24 years at Monaco as a player and coach -- City boss Pep Guardiola's possession-based tactics could prove his side's undoing at the Stade Louis II.

"It's in that team's interest to have the ball," he told L'Equipe. "[Yaya] Toure, [David] Silva and [Kevin] De Bruyne in midfield are super players, but winning back the ball is not their best quality. It's a risky team selection, Guardiola accepts that, but it means they have to have the ball.

"They're a team that's not at ease when you press them. I think the competition for places among the goalkeepers means Willy Caballero isn't calm. There too, Guardiola wants to bring the ball out cleanly from the back come what may, but you sense that it's possible to intercept by pressing them in their half of the pitch."

Puel added: "I see Monaco going through. A two-goal deficit isn't as big as all that for them. It's really doable."

And it's that very attitude that is ruining football if anything is. Lauding managers that take a cynical approach to the game just because they get the results is bad for the game as it encourages others to emulate that anti-football and ruins it as a spectacle.
