Hypothetical Q: FA Cup & 5th or 4th and no trophies

Postby Moonchesteri » Wed Apr 05, 2017 10:27 pm

Given the choice of

A) winning the FA Cup if it means we finish 5th

or

B) Finishing 4th and no trophies this season

which would you take?

Personally I'd 100% take a trophy.

In fifty years time - if I'm alive - I would still remember us lifting the trophy at Wembley. But I can tell you I will not remember us finishing 4th, no matter what happens next season.
And that is also the key for me. Even if we get to CL will we get the players we want? Will we improve? Will we win anything? Answer to all of these is who knows. Same answer as it is if we finish fifth, but at least we'd have won something.

And I am not buying it that we must be in CL to sign players or to even be able to sign players. With modern accounting we can spend lots of £££ even without CL revenue and players Will join Pep's project.

But what's your take on this?

I am with you on the pot. You can never have too many of them, or Wembley finals for that matter

Winning trophies is what all fans want to do. It's not essential to being a supporter, but great when it happens.

In order to resolve this dilemma I would reflect upon a situation when a runaway train is racing toward five men who are tied to the track. Unless the train is stopped, it will inevitably kill all five men. I am standing on a footbridge looking down on the unfolding disaster. However, a fat man, a stranger, is standing next to me: if i push him off the bridge, he will topple onto the line and, although he will die, his chunky body will stop the train, saving five lives.Should I kill the fat man?

Asleep or awake Doug, my point is that we shouldn't torture ourselves by posing impossible conundrums - only the Spafia and the players can influence the outcome of these competitions. Always allowing for the inevitable institutional and media bias in favour of our opponents of course.

Wenger not giving up on his trophy yet
4pts adrift with games in hand .
FA cup might be the only choice we have .

Which TBH is what I would pick
I've spent way to long wishing we would win silverware . Fuck UEFA
