He did what he could when Sterling wasn't covering his man and both centrebacks were covering giroud.

Brought myself to watch it again and you were right mate.

He wasn't really marking either and CBs were covering Giroud. Having said that, top notch defender could have cleared it.

Though I wasn't blaming Navas to begin with since he isn't and never will be a fullback. His strengths lie elsewhere.

Too right!

With out wanting to get on his case , he does track back very well and with speed.

He consistently fails to beat his man and get to the line for a cross. He puts alibi crosses in , quite often useless. Yesterday he even tried to pick out kun in the middle of the about six Arsenal players .... no chance - but he put a cross in !

Allegedly he's been offered a new one year deal to play as a backup right back.

Surely this cannot be true. I guess he is versatile in his defence, equally shite on the wing, wing back and full back

The end of Maffeo if this is the case.

I've mentioned this before but, because Pep's requirements are so physically rigorous and demanding, I always feel that we ought to have four full-backs as an ideal. This would allow them to be regularly rotated to avoid burn out so I wonder if Pep sees Navas as a short-term, cheap (in a financial sense) option to bring this about.

As you say though, ostensibly this doesn't seem to bode too well for Maffeo's prospects.

I am ok with this.

Navas is a very limited player, but we cannot really say he does not give his all for the club. I always liked him, I prefer a player like him, rather than a lazy one.We are not going to buy 4 wingbacks, that is for sure. My two cents, we are going to buy just two + Clichy or Kolarov will sign a new contract.

Sadly our youth policy is worse than with Pellers and Maffeo, Tosin, Ian and Gunn need to leave if they want to grow as footballers.

Can't see Kolarov signing a new deal, his contract still has a year to run after this season.

Terrible decision to give Navas a new contract. He's a headless chicken who sometimes happens to be in the right place to effect the game. Can't beat a man or cross a ball and defensively tracks back well but doesn't stop the cross effectively enough.

I'm ok with him having another year, he is the perfect rolemodel for how a squad player should conduct himself.

Saw a list a while back that showed both him and clichy with contract expiration date set for this summer. I think it was in the winter, one of those "famous" clear out list articles.

Sadly, I fear you're right with regard to this PP.

It's a very disappointing and chilling prospect indeed, as none of them have really been given a run of games in the first team, to see how they performed.

navas is a useful squad member, and i'd keep him. does well coming off the bench against tiring defences.
