This is a very sad and ominous report,
It certainly is.
Hope he gets all the treatment and support he needs.

30?! I thought he was about 25 or 26.
Hope all's well with him.

It's called ageing, we all do it.

Does that mean suicide attempt? Very sad news. Though it doesn't mean mental illness but mental health problems which means usually depression and/or anxiety disorder and can be healed with therapy and possibly medication if needed. When you think that roughly 20 to 30 percent of people will suffer from these conditions during their lifetime it's surpricing how few footballers have come out with these problems. Stan Collymore and sad case of Robert Enke come to mind.

A member of the public saw him in the street, and phoned the police to say they were concerned for his welfare, they turned up and took him off to get treatment in line with some article or other in the mental health act - not sure what the details are, unless more info has come out today (they were being a bit tight lipped about it).

I'm a mental health professional and this or suicidal ideation will be what happened unless there are some other laws in the U.K. surrounding mental health. The only other option would be openly discussing hurting someone else.
It has to be a safety issue, again, unless there are less strict laws surrounding mental health in the U.K.

Depression don't exist!, slipping on ice is of a more greater risk.
Hope the lads okay and gets the help he needs. He wont have had to 'lay it on thick' or be arrested in a 136 suite and wait hours for an assessment though.

Section 136 is about the police taking someone from a public place to a place of safety.
I hope it gets better for him soon. Sounds promising...

Yeah I know what it is. Been in the suite waiting for over 15 hours with a very distressed and acutely ill client trying to get help. During this time two police officers were taken off the beat waiting to and while all agreed the person in question needed help in that moment...... There was one bed left in the country for an admission. Mental Health services are a mess, not the fault of the people working the wards but sad situation echoed all over the nhs.

I'm one of the biggest fans of your humour but that's bit out of order mate.

Conservative policy - if the problem is in the mind then it doesn't exist. Not long ago one of our overlords made some unguarded comments about people on benefits who were 'just taking pills' as though they were all workshy and feckless. The starvation of the health service in general has been sold to the great unwashed as 'austerity' in the same way that the chronic underfunding of the education system has.
If this offends anyone who voted conservative then that wasn't my intention, it was mean't as an observation.

He has money so how can he be unhappy? Stupid argument.

Struggled with severe depression myself. Found a way out with far less resources than this fella. I hope he recovers he should focus on the gifts he has in life. I doubt he is battling cancer or type 1 diabetes like I am. I apologize if I come off a little bitter.

Its crassly done but thought provoking - I do wonder if the strict rules around "performance enhancing" drugs may be preventing athletes from taking antidepressants as I bet there is an ingredient or two on the banned list - pure procrastination on my part but food for thought
Anyway - all the best to him

Sorry to hear of your condition chum; hope you can battle through it successfully.
I know from personal experience that when you're up against it, you can come over as bitter and uncaring, when that's far from the case.
Good luck to you.

It's just a different, more involved perspective - reality mixed with gallows humour.
