First Visit to The Etihad on Saturday

Me and my son are making the round trip from Somerset to see Saturday's game. He's 23, I'm 53 and this will be our first visit for a premiership game at The Etihad. Because of the 12:30 KO we're travelling tomorrow (Friday) and staying overnight.

We've got to decide where to have a couple of beers tomorrow evening and it seems that Mary D's is a possibility. However, is it a bit "hardcore" for a couple of Tractor Boys from Somerset?

Will there be City fans in there on a Friday night? I assume so but I really have no idea.

Other suggestions would be welcome, we'll need to eat too and we're staying at Premier Inn Denton.

Cheers all, I just hope (like everyone else) that we win...

Hi Mate,
Your hotel is on the edge of Denton, apart from an attached restaurant, pub chain grub but decent enough menu, there's not a lot going on. Denton itself is a bit hit and miss, probably more miss, so I would ignore going there. Not a lot of life in Mary Ds, so I would be aiming at Manchester City Centre. Usually quite lively on a Friday evening.
Jump a bus or a cab into Picadiily Gardens area and because of the age range, I would aim towards the Northern Quarter. Lots of quirky bars, a couple of traditional pubs. They're all pretty well next to each other so you can wander at your leisure and pick one that takes your fancy. If you don't like it, the next one's only next door.
Enjoy the game. and hopefully your loss of Etihad virginity will be enjoyable for you and beneficial for City.

Right, thanks for that. We'll get a bus in and a taxi back out then I expect.

We certainly don't want to stay at the hotel for food and drink but it was a good price and the reviews very favourable.

Can't wait!

I love Mary Ds on match day but it's not the place to go on Friday nght. I'd stick to the Northern Quarter too as advised. Have a great day.....fingers crossed you see a win.

John68 & SSB are spot on. Beswick/Bradford is no place for you on a Friday night, especially Mary Ds.

Abel Heyward is a good place to start in the NQ to get a feel for the area. Quite easy to find.

Enjoy the game!

You say you'll be eating in town. There's loads to choose from. What sort of thing do you like?

EDS is playing Southampton at 7pm in the academy stadium (opposite the main stadium - get an Ashton tram to Velo Park). Well worth a visit, as a completely different feel being much closer to the players and a few quid for a couple of hours, so cheaper than the pub.

Just get on the smash in the city center , castlefields and spinningfields very plush and always a good craic . Millions of black cabs to get around just stick your hand out , northern quarter ok but a bit hectic . Crap 12.30 ko 2moz , early train in for me on the piss 10 am top end of deansgate , has to be done ! :) :)

Thanks for all the help, the EDS match is a great suggestion but I doubt we'll arrive in time. Abel Heyward looks excellent though, and I have booked a table for us.

Cheers all.
