some interesting comments here from pep...

Ederson creates 'more space in the middle'

One feature of City's performance was the display of goalkeeper Ederson, who arrived from Benfica for £35m in June.

The Brazilian looked uncomfortable on his debut against Manchester United, but excelled against Real and made a series of fine saves against Spurs.

Furthermore, his ability to send goal-kicks into the opposition penalty area also caught the eye of former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss Guardiola.

"When I was at Bayern, I played a Champions League game against Benfica and we saw it four or five times," said the Spaniard.

"You cannot be offside so it creates a chance and we can have more space in the middle."

almost paid off for kun at one point

That's a useful weapon to have in the armoury.
Last season, as soon as the playing out from the back thing was sussed, it was easy to counter. With a mix of styles, that's not going to be so easy, and will stop teams just turning up and using the high press.

He saves shots!

Apart from the odd Caballero game, it's been a long time since we've seen a goalkeeper do that.

It's still early days yet but, surely, we've seen enough of him so far to suggest this isn't a false dawn ??

If this is anything to go by, it's a great pity we didn't get him last season.

It's been his ability to close down space when he's one on one that's the real showstopper. Our defence has been just as shit as they were last year but when the opposition get in behind he covers the ground so quickly and gets low that really catches the eye.

Still, it's one thing to do it in a friendly and another to to it at dipperland. The jury is out but he's put forward a great case so far.
