Time To Close The Chequebook?

Postby johnny crossan » Sun Jul 30, 2017 1:51 pm

Pep still reckons he needs another CB, presumably he'd like the option of 3 at the back when one of Vinny, Stones and Otter aren't all available or need a rest.

Similarly it looks like he wants another goal scorer - his favourite theme being finishing is our biggest problem.

As I see it if that happens we're gonna have rotational disgruntlement in those positions. Sign another proper left back if one's around but call it a day after that.

My feeling is we should just go for it with the squad we've got now - they will be unstoppable!

(Also I can't take the stress for another month) ;)

I'd like to see Tosin as the 4th-choice centre-half, especially in a three. I think he can do that.

Yes to another left-back, perhaps Bertrand if he is available. Chilwell would be my choice but he wouldn't be cheap. If not, Danilo can rotate with Mendy.

I'd still like a "harder" player in midfield/in front of the back four, but imagine how often he'd be suspended if things are as they were last year with the officials.

We need a striker and a centre back - someone who does what Kompany does for when he's injured again.

Isn't this obvious?

Whether he stays in the team this season may have to do with how well he is doing in training/pre-season.

I'm sure this was discussed when he signed. We shall see.

I was under the impression he might be loaned out, but it's 4th choice so probably not too many games, unless Pep wants to go with 3 at the back more often. Given the way we played yesterday, I could see us wanting a 5th CB anyway.

Who is there that can do what Kompany and Aguero can do and will accept being second or third choice/rotation option?

That was my concern, but if Pep goes with 3 the back like yesterday more often then another CB of good quality may be willing to join now.

As for striker, this is why we want Alexis. Pep doesn't like his forwards to be only able to play up the middle unless you are...Kun. Nacho's ineptitude in front of goal last season hurt his value, because he doesn't help enough elsewhere, cannot be played out wide, and we need another goal scorer. If we sign a striker they will surely be a wide attacking player.

Wonder if we would make a cheeky bid for Bale if Alexis doesn't work out?

Di Maria might be another option assuming he will be available this week...but not the greatest scorer, so don't think that would be an option.

Dunno. But if Aguero or Jesus get injured on the first day are we happy with the other playing every minute of every game in every competition?

Great teams have several great strikers. It's a bit of a small club mentality thinking more than 2 and everyone will be unhappy.

Just like. - oh Jesus has come Aguero must be leaving then!

Well, there you go then.

Dunno.

Well, there you go then.

A solid CB from the Championship with leadership qualities and potential for improvement in the PL would jump at the opportunity. Who that might be I leave to the scouts.

Could have got the same elsewhere and been higher than 4th choice CB.

I think we need a central mid. Yaya and Fern have an age, while Delph, well ... is Delph, so he will be a lot injured. Of course, Tin Tin can cover, but I feel we need someone there.

On the back I feel safe with Vinnie fit. I hope the Mangler stays.

That being said, I think we are going to get Sanchez.

Someone mentioned Silva dropping deeper this season, in a Tugay type role. Would have liked to have seen it happen in pre-season to see what it would look like.

I'd like Mangler to stay and cover things with Tosin.
However ideally I'd live us to get shut of Otter and replace him with a competent defender.
