Definitely win?
Finding it quite hard to be that confidant, irrespective of who plays at left back.

Confident because these twats think they'll hammers us like last season, they're not underdogs anymore, they'll be over condident to turn us over and the media will fathom over their chances, they played out of their skin and we didn't turn up last season. Then again, I could be wrong.

We only lost to these cunts of a 10 minute brain fart and we got fucked over by the ref in the CL game........it wont happen again.

We will beat the cunts this time.

Hope you are right lads.

I missed the game today, clean sheet at Anfield with Mendy at left back, how'd he do?

Defence overall looked solid to be fair. Mendy seemed to give the ball away a bit (but probably no more than others), didn't attack them a lot (I'm guessing he was told not to push as far forward as he has done).

his dribbling stats weren't good. neither were his passing ones but he did ok defensively.

Just had a look at the stats there, they appear to back up your observation.

He didn't fall to pieces when Sane came on. Despite the prediction of many.
If mendy plays like he did yesterday, a more regular full back, there is no problem with him and Leroy on the pitch together.

I think I said something similar in a thread yesterday.
If Mendy settles down and learns how to play alongside Sane, then happy days.
Along with Aguero getting two weeks off and Kev back fit, I’d say things are on the up.

I wouldn’t have Mendy in a Sane or him situation. Give me Sane all day everyday, in current form. But if they learn to play together it could be phenomenal.

I thought he was very sloppy in possession in the first half and his passing was atrocious. However, it might have been down to nerves and/or rustiness, because he was much better in the second half.

He was very sound defensively in a back 4 and showed maturity in when to commit forward or not, which is very promising in my opinion. I was doubting whether he would work in our possession based game in a 4-3-3 with Sané in front of him, but yesterday's display was encouraging.

If there was any change in tactic it was him not bombing on so much and being nicely restrained. Good that he can follow orders!

I don't like him that much because I don't think he is serious enough, however, with him starting vs the most complete attack in the world (how the bent media calls it), we conceided none. 5-0 and 0-0. Without him, with 2 impovised left backs, we conceided 9.

Yet I got told he can’t defend. FACT. Shows how quick many are to judge.

tbf it is difficult to imagine a more abject performance than last night - he can surely only get better

Self awareness is a good thing, hopefully we don't see that level of ineptitude from him again. I'm sure Guardiola will let him have it for that one he just gave up on.

Honestly im not particularly bothered by his new injury. Delph & Zinchenko proved just last season that they're able backups. In fact Id prefer either over a healthy Mendy.

Surely CM & LB are our two top priorities for the summer

We need a specialist left back, this is getting silly with how many games Mendy is injured. Hope he gets well soon, he is by far our best LB option

I remember we were linked with Faouzi Ghoulam from Napoli last summer and last winter on the left, but after what happend with Napoli I think there are slim chances of our staff trying to negociate again with them.
