I loved Barry. It was time for him to go when Pellegrini came but under another manager he could have had at least another couple of years with us as an important squad member.
Very happy for him!

Agree with most here, loved barry at city. One of my fave players of all time.
I disagree with anyone who says his time was up, he could have easily done another two years for us in bit part role. He was replaced by Garcia who was all kinds of horrible until that bit of a run he put together towards the end.
Pep would have loved a peak Barry in todays team just sitting in front of the back four.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He wasn't replaced by Garcia, he was replaced by Fernandinho.
As for a bit part role, I'm not so sure, there's always the danger of him 'seizing up' if not playing regularly at the age he was at the time.

Im talking like for like position not necesarily time they were bought, Fernandinho played(until pep) a completly different role than Barry every did for us. Garcia was more like for like for me.
You might be correct on the seizing up maybe he needs to play all the time.

Garcia replaced De Jong, a specialist defensive midfielder for another.
Barry still played regularly, probably our most regular starter the year Garcia came in and then moved on the summer after when we bought Fernandinho.
Agree about a peak Barry in Pep's system, tailor made for that pivot role.

Is this only a Prem Lge record? Or is it all time?
Agree with sentiments on here, excellent pro, very good, understated player. Happy for him. Incidentally he was one of those early signings that excited me the most, along with Tevez, I knew he'd be class for us.

It's a "Football was invented in 1992" record. Peter Shilton has 1,005 appearances (849 in First Division alone).
Nevertheless, well done to Barry.

Always had a lot of love for Barry - we let him go one or two seasons too early in my opinion. Intelligent players are hard to find these days.

It's no surprise he has been around so long and is still going. Great player for us albeit in the shadows or some big name players. He lost his pace ages ago but makes up for it by reading the game well. A true professional and he really deserves all the credit
Keep it up GazBaz!
