Kevin De Bruyne set for Manchester City talks over contract extension
Kevin De Bruyne would be happy to extend his contract at Manchester City with the Premier League leaders keen to give him a new deal.
The 26-year-old still has almost four years remaining on his current six-year deal, which he signed when he completed a £54 million switch from Wolfsburg in 2015.
However, sources have told ESPN FC that City are ready to offer him a new contract to secure his long-term future at the club.
De Bruyne says he is happy at the Etihad Stadium where he has become a key player for Pep Guardiola, who recently described him as "one of the best players I've ever seen in my life."
"There has not really been a conversation," De Bruyne was quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph. "We both waited until the transfer windw was over.
"They have spoken with [agent Patrick de Koster] in the summer and said give us time to make the transfers and we speak after the summer.
"That will soon happen, I think. I'm not thinking it has to happen fast. I have a four-year contract. Whether I'm four, five or six years under contract, that does not change much, but it's nice the club have so much confidence in me."
Image
De Bruyne is enjoying the extra responsibility that he has been given by Guardiola, with the midfielder taking the captain's armband for the first time in the recent Champions League win over Feyenoord.
"That shows that I'm on the right track and I'm one of the leaders of the team," he added.
"I know I'm one of the five on the players council [along with Vincent Kompany, Fernandinho, David Silva and Sergio Aguero].
"For me, it was also nice to be seen as one of the more adult in the group. That's fun. That does not often happen. I'm the youngest of the five. We shall see [about the captaincy]."

Arsenal target Raheem Sterling is staying at Manchester City, insists Pep Guardiola
Image
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists that Raheem Sterling will be staying at the club despite interest from Arsenal.
In the final days of the transfer window the two clubs discussed Sterling being part of a player-plus-cash deal that would have taken Alexis Sanchez to Manchester, though Guardiola subsequently that he would not countenance such a swap.
However with City preparing another move for Sanchez in January the issue of Sterling’s future as once more reared its head. But Guardiola reaffirmed his commitment to the 22-year-old, who has scored five goals in as many league games this season
“Raz [Raheem] is staying here,” Guardiola said. “The club trust him, that is why we have invested a lot of money in him, so the players we have are going to stay.
Koscielny: Alexis Sanchez must start to enjoy playing again
“If they want to leave they are going to leave, but he wants to stay. If players want to leave they have to ask the chairman, but there is no chance of that. He is going nowhere.”
Sterling’s current deal runs until the summer of 2020 but City are reportedly prepared to offer him improved terms after his explosive start to the new season.

Aguero only world-class Premier League striker – Henry
[img]image:%20https://images.cdn.fourfourtwo.com/sites/fourfourtwo.com/files/styles/image_landscape/public/sergioaguero-cropped_1xsxcatj4c8v31bse5b9k8hvcb.jpg?itok=KcAoWTcV&c=87b6d99828d88c1b8ffe17a08d24fc7d

[/img]Arsenal great Thierry Henry believes only one striker in the Premier League is world class – Manchester City's Sergio Aguero.

Manchester City star Sergio Aguero is the only world-class striker in the Premier League, according to Thierry Henry.
Aguero has scored six goals in as many league games this season and is just one strike away from joining Eric Brook as City's all-time leading goalscorer.
The Argentinian is joined atop the scoring charts by Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea recruit Alvaro Morata.
While Harry Kane (four goals) and Jamie Vardy (five) have also made good starts to the campaign, Arsenal great Henry said Aguero deserved most of the plaudits.
"The only one who is worldclass, or has been world class, is Aguero because of the longevity of what he has done in this league, year in and year out," the Frenchman told Sky Sports.
"He won the league here and he has been doing it the longest. You have to give him a bit of credit. I think sometimes we bypass Aguero like he didn't happen."
Aguero is a two-time winner of the Premier League and has netted at least 20 league goals in four of his six seasons.
Henry believes the likes of Lukaku, Kane and Morata will eventually get to Aguero's level.
"Lukaku has just arrived at Manchester United, he hasn't played long in the Champions League," he said.
"For Harry Kane, last season was short in the Champions League. It was short in the Europa League and the Euros.
"Morata was often off the bench at Madrid. He had a good year at Juve but he was playing with [Fernando] Llorente or [Carlos] Tevez.
"They will get there and we should be happy to have these players in our league.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Sergio Aguero goes to Arsenal”
BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce believes Pep Guardiola’s under-appreciation of Sergio Aguero could see the player leave the club.
The City manager insists the striker is now a better player under his tutelage despite benching and criticising him last season.
But Pearce feels “this isn’t a marriage made in heaven”, suggesting the fractious relationship between the two may see Guardiola rekindle his interest in Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, with Aguero potentially moving the other way.

[i]Silva could return from thigh strain in time for City's clash with Champions Bayern
David Silva could be fit to return to the Manchester City team for the visit of Bayern Munich in the Champions League next Wednesday evening.
The Spanish playmaker has not played for City since the 2-0 victory over Hull at the end of August after being sent home from international duty with a thigh strain at the beginning of September.
He has been absent for two Premier League games, the draw at Stoke and the victory over Manchester United, while he also missed City's opening Champions League game - the 3-0 win away to Viktoria Plzen - as well as the Capital One Cup success over Wigan.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini does not expect to have the Spaniard fit and ready to take on Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon, but is hopeful that Silva can return in time to face Bayern Munich in an eagerly-anticipated Champions League group game against European Champions Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Speaking after Manchester City's 5-0 demolition of Wigan Athletic on Tuesday evening, Manuel Pellegrini said: 'We will see in the next days what happens with David Silva. The doctor can say better than me what will happen.
'For next Saturday, I don't think he can play. Maybe for the next game in the Champions League, he can play.'
To their credit, City have coped remarkably well in Silva's absence, netting twelve goals in a week as Pellegrini's side strolled to dominant victories over Plzen, United and Wigan.

You ain't seen nothing yet! Pellegrini fires warning to title rivals that Toure is going to get even better after stunning free-kick in comfortable win against Wigan
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has warned that midfield powerhouse Yaya Toure has the potential to improve even further.
Toure has made a blistering start to the season, firing five goals and producing several dominant performances in the heart of the City midfield.
The Ivory Coast international was outstanding in eclipsing Manchester United's Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick during the 4-1 derby demolition at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, and he followed it up with a scorching free-kick in the 5-0 victory over Wigan on Tuesday evening.
'He is an excellent player.' Pellegrini said, 'If he adds goals from free-kick and he scored again on Sunday, it is very important. A player can always improve more and Yaya is trying to do that.'
Toure is already well on his way to overtaking the nine goals he netted in City colours last season and it is his proficiency from free-kicks that has stood out at the beginning of this campaign.
The midfielder has developed a dipping, powerful strike that swerves in the air and it has been too much for the goalkeepers of Newcastle, Hull and Wigan, with three of Toure's five goals coming from set pieces.
Pellegrini admits that Toure has made an effort to improve his set-pieces, with the player regularly staying behind after training to perfect his technique.
'We are always practising,' Pellegrini said, 'Yaya stays normally kicking after we finish the daily work. He is in a very good moment. He is a very important player for the team.'
Pellegrini was in high spirits after witnessing his City side net twelve goals in three games over the past seven days, with a 3-0 victory over Plzen in the Champions League being followed by a 4-1 humbling of Manchester United and a 5-0 win over Wigan.
City have hit of a hot streak in front of goal, with six different goalscorers finding the net in the past week, and although Pellegrini made ten changes to the team that beat Manchester United, his side maintained a high level of performance for the visit of Wigan in the Capital One Cup, with £23million signing Stevan Jovetic grabbing two goals on his home debut.
The Chilean boss added: 'The goals are important. I spoke with the players before we started and told them that we must always play in the same way.
'We can change names but for me, It was very important to see the same team that we saw on Sunday against Manchester United. We had to play with the same philosophy and with a high performance.
'I think it is very important for Stevan, too. He wasn't playing because he has had some physical problems but he has been working hard for the last two weeks.
'I'm sure he is going to to be a very important player for us. He really played well in the second-half. He moved more and received the ball. I am very happy with him.'

Mancini lined up to take over at Galatasaray after big-spending Turkish giants sack Terim
Roberto Mancini is being lined up to be Galatasaray's new manager following the departure of Fatih Terim. The former Manchester City manager was sacked at the end of last season following a disappointing campaign but his reputation on the continent remains highly respectable after leading City to the Premier League title and reports suggest he is in Istanbul discussing the vacancy.
The experienced Terim was dismissed after refusing to sign a new contract and his side's 6-1 Champions League defeat at home to Real Madrid and the club hope to secure his successor in time for the October 2 fixture away to Juventus.
'After Fatih Terim's rejection of our two-year contract offer, the Galatasaray board have decided to find a different solution,' read a statement from Galatasaray. 'We have decided to terminate Fatih Terim's contract.

Patrick Vieira: English grassroots football decades behind
PATRICK VIEIRA has criticised the state of English football’s grassroots game and that its backward level is hampering the prospects of the national team winning at major tournaments.
His comments follow Football Association chairman Greg Dyke writing off England’s hopes of winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and that target was to get the Three Lions ready to be serious contenders by the time of the 2022 finals.
Speaking about limited opportunities for young English players in the Premier League, Vieira told Sportsmail: “To talk about foreign players is the easy answer. The problem comes from the grassroots. How can you improve the quality of the boys?
“The game has changed and football has changed.
“Now, it is completely different to football from thirty or forty years ago.
“I believe that at grassroots level in England, the football has not really changed. Maybe this is one of the issues and one of the problems.”
The former Arsenal midfielder and current Manchester City Elite Development Squad manager added: “In English football, the grassroots football has taken time to change the way young players train and play.
“When you look at the quality of players you have had in this country, it is unbelievable. You are talking about [Steven] Gerrard, [Paul] Scholes, all these outstanding players. The game has changed, now. The coaching and the grassroots have to change as well.”
On the subject of his own prospects of taking over a big side as manager, Vieira said: “It’s too early to say. I don’t want to get myself too excited about it.
“It is important that I learn a lot in the next few years and see if I am good enough because it is not an easy job at all.
“Then, I will decide if I want to manage a first-team or not. Now, what is important to me is to learn and see what is going to happen in the next few years.”

Although Rooney scored United's only consolation goal, it did not stop him from getting death threats by angry fans, who also targeted his wife Coleen and their two children Kai and Klay.
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney and his family were reportedly made the target of 'vile' death threats on Twitter following United's Premier League drubbing by arch-rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
Although Rooney scored United's only consolation goal, it did not stop him from getting death threats by angry fans, who also targeted his wife Coleen and their two children Kai and Klay.
According to the Daily Star, a fan tweeted that he hopes that 'something tragic' happened to Rooney, 'his missus and the kids', while other tweets slammed Rooney as an 'ugly overpaid f***' and that they wanted to kill the star.
However, Rooney's wife reportedly was unfazed after she replied as 'another nob' to the threats concerning her and the children, although many other fans leapt to the couple's defence and slammed the 'sick' trolls.
Meanwhile, the report said that the culprits could face police action as specialist force IT experts monitor internet traffic, with a police source saying that social networking sites are not an excuse for people to say whatever they like to whoever they like.

I'd love to hear what Pearce believes would tempt Aguero to join Arsenal.

I'd also like to know why we would replace a striker with a winger. Are they really trying to tell us that we/Pep would be happy to only have one recognised striker in his squad and that striker is just 20 years old? It's bonkers.

The apparent unrest at PSG over the signing of Neymar is a salutary lesson. Given that virtually every senior member of the first team squad seems to have been offered in exchange or put up for sale in order to get Neymar, team spirit seems a little thin on the ground. Controversy over who takes penalties and the wages Neymar is being paid compared to other players seems to be undermining the best intentions of the owner who had to deny offering to pay Cavani €1m NOT to take penalties. All good fun!!

Very true. I see they drew 0-0 at the weekend too without neymar. So much for their frightening attack force.

Also cavani missed the penalty in question but has scored 16 from his last 18 compared to Neymars 12 from the last 18.

Give it to Mbappe. Problem solved.

I think it's all to do with the ballon d'or and the owners pledge to get him to win it. If he isn't top striker at his club in France, what chance does he stand of winning it over anyone else.
