Not that I’m disagreeing with you, but the upside of paying a large amount of money is it inflates the market even more for everybody else. Plus it would infuriate all our rivals, which is also a Brucey bonus.

I agree. I think he'd be a great signing for BFS. That's why we shouldn't get bent over by Everton. They have money to spend and are desperate. What good does a loan do us. The way it's going, I could see Stones covering Fernandinho as DM at some point this season. Mangala may yet prove beneficial to still be here until the summer

keep a 5th string CB (4th when Kompany is injured)? Tosin already fits that role.
no one will buy Mangala unless we come close to offloading him for free

If he impresses BFS, at the end of the season he might command a far healthier fee than hitherto has been the case.

absolutely.

i was referring to people expecting clubs to have bought him in prior windows or in this most recent one.
he's done absolutely nothing since coming here and has just depreciated it. other clubs have zero incentive to spend any money on him whatsoever. now, if, like you said, he impresses at Everton then maybe theyll come back for him next summer but by no means should anyone be expecting a fee over 20M.

"other clubs have zero incentive to spend any money on him "

What are you on about phips? He's a decent player who just isn't a fit here. He'll represent value for a number of mid level clubs.

Why were Arsenal, whose defence is quite a problem, interested in JFE and not Mangala just this past January?

Heard such offers of interest for Mangala?

A player who has had plenty of chances to prove himself with us and has been very inconsistent and shaky?

French international? Jason Denayer is also a Belgium international, mate.

When was the last time Mangala earned a cap? He couldn't even earn one when France had an injury crisis at CB during, I think, the Euros last time around where he made the squad due to this issue. Deschamps went with some CB whose name I cannot even recall at all, and Mangala didn't play any minutes at all, I believe.

Mangala's not awful, but JFE is considered a steady, reliable, experienced CB by most others who are not our fans -- the opposite of Mangala even if JFE is not all that great.

Except he's on big wages. That's clearly the problem with us selling, similar to Hart and all of the other players we've expressed anger about Tixki not being able to sell.

Nasri, Jovetic, Dzeko, etc.

After the Sanchez debacle both last summer and this window, maybe they did enquire and were politely told to fuck off. Could imagine our boys not wanting to deal with that shower

Mate, because he didn't want to go to a mid-table club who has been fighting to stay in the league.

He's in his prime so surely he wants to go to a club competing at the top of the league.

Arsenal, as much as they have dropped in quality as a club, are still far and away a better choice for a player like him than Everton.

Maybe Arsenal made an offer that was never leaked to the press that we haven't heard of? That sounds like quite a reach to me.

Every time Mangala is rumoured to go anywhere there are plenty of stories about this because we have been desperate to get rid for two years now.

It is true we were interested in Evans, no? So was it discussed that Arsenal were. These are stories discussed at length in the media for months, at least, but not a single story about Mangala going to any mid-table PL club or Arsenal, who want steady defenders not one's like Mangala.

To be fair, part of the issue is about wages. Mangala is on bigger wages than Evans. I think he's on around 100k a week.

Because hes priced higher than Mangala and wouldnt come on a loan.
You countered your own argument with that question.

Everton went for the cheaper, more available option aka the worse of the two.

Can you provide this evidence that Jonny Evans is priced higher than Mangala?

Might be a better idea to have this evidence as part of your post, rather than just exclaim that I have countered my own argument.
