And if we're gonna loan someone as a CB, surely it'll be someone from either Spain or Germany that Pep has worked with previously.

I understand the LB debate, Danilo hasn't impressed me there, to be honest (Equally, the way he played against Wolves, I was doubting that he was good enough to play RB for us!) and whilst I love Delph, we're asking a lot from him - especially WHEN we get to the latter stages of the Chimps League. I think a LB is a likely addition.

Other than that, I think we'll have a very quiet January. It'll be more a case of outgoings for young players and Yaya will probably agree a deal to join NYCFC at the end of our season.

No Sanchez then?

I wouldn't be surprised if we put off signing Sanchez until the summer. Our squad is doing fine upfront at the moment, so it's not really a priority - whereas strengthening the defence is. He clearly looked like he wanted to come to us in the summer and it's no secret that Pep wanted to sign him, but there's no real rush.
Of course, if we have the money and are serious about going for silverware then it'll do us some good to be greedy and sign him in January.

Fine at the moment but if one gets injured the other won't be far behind. I think we need a forward, a CB and a left back.

and cover for Fern, more important than either another CB or Sanchez. LB is still top priority though.

Genuine question as I haven't watched him much but is Chelsea's Kurt Zouma any good ??

He's currently on loan at Stoke either because Conte has fallen out with him, or he's somewhat mediocre (or both ??) so, we might get him for less than expected, always providing he's a Pep player and he's decent enough.

Would he be good enough for us ??

I think he is a poor man's Micah Richards. Everytime I saw him he looked solid and shady at the same time, looking confident one moment, then making a silly mistake the next second.
Also, he looks very poor with the ball at his feet, so deffo not a Pep player.

I was looking the other day at the CB names outside the EPL and it seems that there are just a few that are coming from the back. Linderlof looked solid at Benfica, but is turning out a flop at filth and so on. Seria A is giving next to none at the moment, after Bonucci, Barzagli and Chielini.

Thanks PP.

Perhaps Tosin has to gear himself up to do a 'Delph' if, as and when he gets called ??

No idea, pal. I hope so, I really hope. When I was a kid, the goldeb generation of Steaua that won the Champions Cup had Belodedici, whick was nicknamed the Deer, because he was very thin and impecable in defence, but most of all, very elegant with the ball at his feet. I swear that Tosin reminds me of him

Imho the market regarding CBs is very poor now and the numbers around those players are far from the actual price and I am thinking at the fella from Soton. Otamendi, which imho, would not even be around the likes of Sensini or Chamot, old school argie defenders, is, at the moment, maybe one of the most solid defenders that money can buy.

That's an interesting analogy. To me, Tosin puts me in mind of a daddy longlegs (crane fly), the way he sticks is leg around opponents to get the ball.

Last night was incontrovertible evidence of the trouble we will be in if we lose Fernandinho - the team doesn't function well unless his role is effectively filled. We need quality cover urgently unless Danilo reveals hitherto hidden abilities.

The same could be be said about our need for pace on both flanks. Sanchez will provide that if either Sterling or Sane aren't there.

nope.
last night we only had evidence that when Sir Dinho gets a rest Yaya can no longer supposed to be of use at deep lying. Gundo can do it pretty well (sure you had noted a certain uptempo improvement, since he was filled there, despite general "little urgency" attitude).
as my favourite resident DoF, it's not that I dont see the point (cant rely on Gundo to stay fit 60+ games and a heir should be found, sooner or later, not that urgently)... its just that I don't like when You get preposterous to reiterate Your man crush on that diving arse...

Sanchez... arfff

Long shot but don't rule out paddy Evans in Jan, my mate who knows his father who's his agent said its almost a done deal in Jan, pooliss was the one blocking the sale so now he's gone they want the money to strengthen in other areas!!

They need to strengthen because of their aging centre backs - why do we want one? Baffling

Absolutely and, on that basis, why were we even, purportedly, interested in him in the summer ??

I think top priority should be a left back. Danilo and Delph offer nothing going forward in that role. Zinchenko is a scratch left back at best although he may well get some game time. Presumably Stones will be back just before the transfer window opens but if Mangala is allowed to go it will be on condition we get in a decent centre back. I doubt Sanchez will come in January unless the Club are worried about losing him to PSG if they wait till the Summer.

Never buy an Asian-made black man.

That's what my old man always told me.

I think as someone mentioned last night showed we cant rely on Yaya and cover for fern is top priority.

I wonder could we get Leon Goretzka or Emre Can on the cheap, both are out of contract in the summer i wonder would 10-15m bids get it done in Jan, both would be perfect for the role.

A defender is next on the priority list, pref a left sided central defender who can cover left back. Not sure such a player exists but....

And im still a no to sanchez, after watching against the rags im just not sure if he will fit, not a team player.
