And why didn't Everton go for Evans?

:?

Because hes priced higher than Mangala and wouldnt come on a loan.
You countered your own argument with that question.

Everton went for the cheaper, more available option aka the worse of the two.

Can you provide this evidence that Jonny Evans is priced higher than Mangala?

Might be a better idea to have this evidence as part of your post, rather than just exclaim that I have countered my own argument.

Read all the posts youve already read in this thread plus the news about WBA turning down our 30M bid (or whatever it was over the summer).

Mangala’s value is readily apparent by the fact that people only want loans, hes not playing for us, and common sense

I'd pay more for Evans than Mangala ... honest.

Thankfully that scenario is now irrelevant

Common sense would have you factor in his current wages, along with the valuation we - the selling club - have placed on him as being very big elements in any sale.

You haven't even thought about the possibility that clubs wanting to buy him can't afford him, have you?

But you do seem to have all the figures - would you mind telling me what wages they are both currently on before we continue?

What are you on about phips? He's a decent player who just isn't a fit here. He'll represent value for a number of mid level clubs.

what do you mean? i meant what i said.

which mid level club is going to pay the wages he will ask for and the price we would ask for. this is under the assumption we ask for 20M or something. sure, if Southampton could buy him for 8M theyd do it. but that aint happening.

Crikey, that's a thought.

If Southampton bought him for a pittance, in one or two years time they could be selling him to the Dippers for £75 million or so.

Eh?! Dzeko stayed at Roma?! I thought it was confirmed he went to Chelsea?

The left back went to Chelsea. But they couldn't agree terms with Dzeko apparently.

Watched Everton last night on MoTD AND Mangala was truly shocking. I can't see the bin dippers 2 buying him at the end of the season, so we’ll be lumped with him again

He played in an adhoc back three (or perhaps five). Non of the defenders had a fucking clue what to do or where to stand. From what I saw Mangala at least tried. Singling out the new guy who had trained with squad one or twice seems a bit unfair when we're talking about a collective collapse.

For teams using man marking, and that dont rely on a passing game too much he would be a good buy - he can mark pretty much any striker in the premier league out of the game - he's physical and if he's instructed to hoof it out of danger when needed he will happily do that for the full 90 minutes. He's just not a Pep defender. (And I didn't see the Everton game so I can't comment).

True, regarding 3 at the back, but I saw the MOTD highlights as well and he made two errors that should have zero to do with any partnership, and looked rather familiar.

I wish him the best, but Big Sam is not going to be pleased with his debut at all.

Yes, man marking big, strong players is usually his thing, but I've seen him brushed aside by seemingly smaller players this season.

It isn't just his size that he keeps getting chances it's also because he has pace.

Yet, that can go to ruin as his composure and decision making with and without the ball can be wildly problematic to say the least, or at a kind minimum inconsistent when dealing with quick players who possess good movement.

I don't see the sort of assertiveness and bravery you'd like to see from a centre half, like what you saw in one goal scored here he seemed hesitant to clear the danger, and another where he ran out to the attacking player and Allan Sheerer commented how he turned his back instead of going all out, which led to a deflection that confused their keeper.

Would never happen, but I'd love to see Super Mario brought back in to be an option off the bench

Odd how rumours are that we only want to sign a centre mid/defensive mid given what's going on with Mendy.
