huge gamble imo. he is talented but inconsistent. and the fee makes kdb seem a bargain even moreso.

Agreed. It's a huge gamble. The lad isn't even good enough to start for Dortmund anymore and even when he started he never really scored goals. No way is he worth that kind of money, especially with only 1.5 yrs left on his deal. But Chelsea like to throw around the cash.

I'm not worried. This doesn't improve them in any meaningful way.

Pep was a bit shifty today when asked about new signings this month. 8-)

Maybe what the Chelsea signing does show is that for once they are planning ahead and not intending to change manager in the summer?

Stop looking for excuses that don't exist..he was good enough and Dortmund certainly recognized this.

All PeP had to do was play him a few minutes here and there to convince him , like he did with Foden...but he didn't....he went out and bought MehRez instead.

Sometimes its best just to fuckign recognize a fuckup from our hierarchy when theres a fuck up instead of looking for non existing excuses.

The reason this happened was the Sanchez interest we had and was well known.

What was then a big issue with the team and is still now is finishing, so who was better and likely to be more reliable at this? It’s not even close in terms of rating unless you’re lying to yourself, and effectively that’s why he left for Dortmund. We were also expecting to get Alexis for a fee far below his value due to his contract situation.

No one expected Sancho to become this good this fast. I don’t even think Dortmund did.

We then pursued Mahrez for his finishing as well and this has led Brahim to go as well.

So you have to blame Pep for not pursing a world class striker at the time for a log-jammed attacking unit with big questions about its finishing capabilities outside of Kun, who was also possibly looking like he was leaving after the next season. It was a very tough decision and bottom line is we offered him a very nice waged contract to stay and he said no.

Really it was about a 16/17 year old Sancho versus World class Alexis and after Pep's first season the pressure to win trophies was much higher so risking this chance at Alexis (and later Mahrez after the issue of finishing persisted) on unproven teenagers over him seems rather risky to me.

I think Pulisic's fee is also inflated due to his marketing value by playing for the USA as the star player.

I think he's had several muscle injuries this season, as Sancho has played so well. It's also hard to justify getting him back into the team when it's also known his contract is winding down and he has said he wanted to come to the PL as Sancho is in such form.

I'm just saying I think there may be more to the story as to why he's not playing, and I wouldn't assume he won't improve. I will say I haven't watched a lot of him this season though.

He could come very good and would have cost nearly twice that if he was playing as he was 1 season ago.

Good move for him and the USA team, actually.

I think he's mainly a commercial signing rather than an on the field signing. They'll get loads of new American fans and preference in TV games shown over here. Like how PL teams used to sign the odd Chinese/Asian player a few years ago. They might be average, but you get 100 million new fans on the other side of the world.

edit: apologies PrezIke, I see you posted the exact same thing before me

Sancho? It has no bearing on his worth. Sancho, like everyone else, is worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

Fantastic how people still have the nerve to say we are ruining the market when Chelsea pay that much for this fella.

It shows how the media is really on about and how many people listen to it.

Around four times more we paid for Silva when people claimed we broke the bank.

Noticed Pep's post match comments? "We don't have a left back".

Yeah, we will sign someone. That was it.

Clyne and Solanke move to Bournmouth.
Imagine Alexander Arnold gets injured later this month.
