Sorry for the delay ... bit of a hangover . . .

Kevin De Bruyne agent plans to use Neymar salary at PSG as negotiating tool to get Man City star huge pay rise
Image
Kevin De Bruyne’s representatives plan to use Neymar’s eye-watering £32 million-a-year deal with Paris St-Germain as a negotiating platform when they sit down with Manchester City for talks over a new contract for the Belgium midfielder.
De Bruyne has been in outstanding form for City this season and the club and player are keen to thrash out a new deal more reflective of his standing as one of the world’s best midfielders.
The 26-year-old has just under four years left to run on the six-year contract he signed with City when he arrived from Wolfsburg for £55 million in 2015.
De Bruyne’s existing deal is worth a basic £6 million a year but it is thought to be worth up to £15.6 million annually once a lucrative bonus scheme is factored in.
Yet there is the prospect of De Bruyne standing to double his money at City and securing a deal closer to the £600,000 a week, including bonuses, that Neymar, the world’s most expensive player, earns at PSG.
Patrick De Koster, De Bruyne’s agent, admitted Neymar’s salary could be used as a negotiating tool. “In the coming months, I’ll meet with City to figure out how to improve and extend his contract,” De Koster told Radio CRC in Italy.
“His salary? I cannot say. But if you think what Neymar and [Kylian] Mbappe are being paid [at PSG], you can picture it...”
De Bruyne, who was involved in all but two of the City goals in last Saturday’s 7-2 defeat of Stoke, is already being touted as a candidate for the leading individual awards this season but De Koster does not believe that is realistic while Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, of Real Madrid, remain on the scene.
“He can’t expect to win the Ballon d’Or at the moment, he’s still far from footballers like Messi and CR7,” De Koster said. “Everything will depend on how much he can achieve with City, there’s still a big difference now.”

Ederson's contribution to Manchester City's cause is immeasurable
Image
The Brazilian goalkeeper saved a Mertens penalty, thwarted Napoli teammates on several other occasions, and started attacks with his distribution in 2-1 Champions League win
In one respect, the change from the recent past was an unwelcome one. When Amadou Diawara slotted a spot kick past Ederson, it ended an extraordinary run. The previous six penalties Manchester City had conceded in the Uefa Champions League had all been saved: three by Joe Hart, two by Willy Caballero and one by Ederson.
In another, it mattered not. The decisive spot kick was the one that did not go in, taken by Napoli’s prolific top scorer, Dries Mertens, and repelled by Ederson. City’s 10th successive win was also the hardest to secure, against a side that Pep Guardiola believes may be the best he has faced in his managerial career.
It came courtesy of a newcomer to highlight the goalkeeping upgrade City have had in the summer.
“Ederson kept us in it,” said right-back Kyle Walker who, after conceding the first penalty, was particularly relieved.
Kevin de Bruyne elaborated: “He came in with big expectations, and he’s doing really well. He kept us controlling the game stopping the first penalty. But even the way he passes the ball around helps us to control the game more. He’s doing a great job.”
The demoted Claudio Bravo had the lowest save percentage in the Premier League last season and was a reason why the quality of City’s passing was not reflected in some scorelines.
Ederson has the fourth best save percentage in England’s top flight and has only let in one goal in the Champions League. And yet save percentages do not show the scope of his contribution. Two minutes after Raheem Sterling put City ahead, the Brazilian charged off his line to head clear when Mertens threatened to score.
That willingness to leave his penalty box is what Guardiola demands from a man who is part sweeper, part keeper. It also, indirectly, led to Sadio Mane’s crucial red card when Liverpool lost 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola was mocked in some quarters for wanting a goalkeeper who can pass the ball like a midfielder. Ederson boasts a 90 per cent success rate with his distribution in the Champions League, which should be the envy of a many an outfield player.
De Bruyne, meanwhile, is forging a reputation as City’s classiest passer. The Belgian added to his collection of glorious assists with a whipped low cross that Gabriel Jesus converted for what proved the winner, but refuted suggestions he is doing anything differently.
“I think if you check my assists what I did before in Germany and Belgium, a lot of times it’s the same,” he said. City hope he can carry on doing it for some time. De Bruyne has two-and-a-half years left on his contract, but an extension is planned.
“My agent went already one time to [director of football] Txiki [Begiristain],” added De Bruyne. “Talks are coming. I’m patient anyway, I don’t stress it.”
And City have rather less pressure on them. They have only won their Champions League pool once before, may only need four points to remain at the summit of Group F. Thanks, in part, to Ederson.

Manchester City ace Kevin de Bruyne laughs off bust-up with David Silva
KEVIN DE BRUYNE has laughed off his TV bust-up with Manchester City team mate David Silva.
The Belgian star was caught by cameras in a heated discussion with Silva as they left the field at half-time in the 2-1 win over Napoli.
But De Bruyne says the verbals were nothing worse than a domestic with the missus!
He was trying to give the fourth official an ear-bending when he was pulled away by Silva and Fernandinho.
De Bruyne said: “We just had a little discussion. A minute later, that’s forgotten. I have those discussions sometimes with my wife too. You too, I suppose.
“Sometimes it’s needed. Not everything is always positive. But this was something small. I wanted to ask something, but I wasn’t allowed to.
“I was just a bit annoyed. And for a minute I lost myself”
Man City ace Kevin de Bruyne
“But, as I said, it’s nothing to make a big deal out of it. It happens sometimes.”
He added: “Some people often say or see that I’m frustrated, but that wasn’t the case. I was just a bit annoyed. And for a minute I lost myself.
“One minute and it’s done. And I don’t mind. At the highest level a discussion can be good sometimes. To get everyone on their toes again.”
Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus were on target for City last night at the Etihad

GOLDEN BOLLOX
On this day in 2013

Manuel Pellegrini lifts crazy bans imposed by former boss
MANUEL PELLEGRINI has ditched three bans imposed by Roberto Mancini in a bid to wipe out the memory of the madcap Italian.
Former Manchester City chief Mancini ruled the dressing room with an iron fist during his time at the Etihad Stadium.
He stunned his squad by banning music both before and after matches.
The former Inter Milan boss also put a block on the colour purple on all clothes, including training tops, and insisted on team meetings taking place at odd-numbered times.
He then told his stars get-togethers could not happen on the hour.
But Pellegrini has put an end to the ridiculous rules to make himself popular with his players. The Chilean, who was drafted in last summer to replace Mancini and is renowned for his man-management skills, is keen to do things his way.
A club insider said: “There’s a joke going around this place that United can start calling us the ‘noisy neighbours again if they like, because at least now the boys can play music.
Mancini was unpopular even without his wacky rules. They were just the tip of the iceberg.
“He was unbelievably superstitious and completely lost his temper when a batch of the training bibs and jackets were purple.
“He said it was an unlucky colour and he didn’t want them anywhere near the place. He also said meetings scheduled to take place at an even numbered time were unlucky, especially on the hour.
“We couldn’t believe what we were hearing – at first it sounded like a wind-up but then the horrible realisation kicked in.
“As for the music ban, Mancini said the players wouldn’t be able to concentrate if a song was in the background, even though our opponents had their stuff blaring out down the corridor.
“Once he had his way this place was like a morgue. We have returned to the real world at last.
“The new manager actually talks to the players and staff, which is something that didn’t happen for three years under the last guy.
“Joe Hart can wear his purple jersey without fear of another fall-out, meetings can take place on the hour, and Liam Gallagher can once again be heard ringing out before kick-off.”

Micah Richards insists he is not leaving Manchester City despite reported interest from Arsenal, Newcastle and Roma
Richards is running out of time to force his way into the England squad for next season having made just two appearances this season
Micah Richards is confident he is in manager Manuel Pellegrini's plans and has no intention of leaving Manchester City.
The full-back has played only twice this season, once in the Capital One Cup and once in the Champions League against Bayern Munich.
Injuries limited Richards to eight appearances last season and there had been speculation he may seek to leave the Etihad Stadium in search of a regular spot and to boost his England hopes.
The 25-year-old last played for his country in February 2012 and faces a race against time to force his way into Roy Hodgson's squad for the World Cup finals next summer.
Richards told BT Sport: "I did say at the start of the season I wanted to see the manager's plans and I'm in his plans, as he's said all along, so we'll see what the future holds, but I'm happy at Manchester City.
"I've been here since I was 14, it's a club I love.
"Before I got my injuries, I was number-one choice. It's only because I got injuries and Pablo Zabaleta has done so well, I find myself not playing as regular.
"I'm fully fit now and I'm ready to show everyone what I can do.
"It was a big decision for the manager to play me in the Bayern Munich game after only playing one game previously in the cup against Wigan so it shows massive confidence in me."

Meanwhile, defender Martin Demichelis is closing in on a first-team debut after pulling on a City shirt for the first time.
The Argentinian defender joined City at the start of September from Atletico Madrid but damaged knee ligaments in his first week of training.
Demichelis played 45 minutes in the elite development squad's 2-2 draw with Rochdale on Wednesday night.
With a return date for captain Vincent Kompany still uncertain, Demichelis' return to fitness has come at a good time, although Saturday's trip to West Ham may come too soon.
Demichelis, who played under Pellegrini at River Plate and Malaga, told http://www.mcfc.co.uk: was important to play and get the confidence back. My knee responded very well and I'm very happy after working very hard to get here.
"It was difficult at the beginning with the injury but that allowed me to meet everybody at the club and feel confident and comfortable with everybody so it's fantastic now and I'm looking forward to my debut."
Midfielder Jack Rodwell also played in the game, which City won on penalties, and has declared himself fit and available for West Ham.
The 22-year-old, who has been dogged by injury problems during his time at City, has made only one first-team appearance this season, in the goalless draw with Stoke in September.
Rodwell is another player hoping to prove himself to Hodgson, and he said: "Brazil's looming in the future and obviously I've got one eye on it but one step at a time.
"Hopefully I'll get in the (City) team soon and keep playing."

Barcelona want to sign Man City’s Sergio Aguero next summer for €55m
Spanish TV show Punto Pelota claim to have the inside scoop on a big transfer rumour, as they announced on their Thursday night broadcast that FC Barcelona are looking to sign Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero next summer.
According to the show’s talking-head François Gallardo, Tata Martino has submitted a request to the Barcelona board to begin enquires into bring Kun Aguero to the Nou Camp in 2014.
Gallardo revealed the Barcelona would need to pay around €50-55m in order to lure Aguero from the City of Manchester stadium, which would indicate that Barcelona would need to sell a player before the Argentine international could be secured.

It's a case of just how bad is their national team that BFS can only 'improve' them.??

As parallel, I'm thinking of Jack Charlton and the Eire team a while ago now.

Good example there MC.

The USA's qualifying group should've been a racing certainty to qualify from. That they didn't means there's quite a bit wrong somewhere in their set up. A fresh look by a manager renowned for getting the basics right is not a bad place to start IMO. I wasn't displeased when he got the England job and hearing about the utter dross that his replacement has dished up since, makes me kind of wish he was still in charge

if You care of my opinion (which is every while more rethorical) answer is anyone could:
soccer movement on rampant raise since a while, and finally they even have a domestic league worth the name.

just need further plenty of positive lectures and examples, starting from the National Team, to build on a base that more that any else Nation has moulded Its Educational System on "Mens sana in corpore sano".
only matter of time until USA become a driving force also in English Football.
(phips IQ alert: it's what english language call a pun, English opposed to American opposed to soccer. am not claiming that USA NT is to enter EPL, mind.)

for all the Yodaish-ism above, I don't reckon the Charltonscum parallel of particular fascination.
