Pep Guardiola targets Antoine Griezmann as Manchester City’s alternative signing to Alexis Sanchez
Pep Guardiola will consider a move for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann after being promised by Manchester City’s hierarchy that he will be able to sign an alternative to Alexis Sanchez, according to reports. The Premier League leaders have pulled out of the race to sign the Chilean after Manchester United indicated that they were willing to meet Arsenal’s £35million valuation. Jose Mourinho’s side are also ready to make Sanchez the highest-paid player in the Premier League with a deal worth £400,000 a week. City are unwilling to meet Sanchez’s new demands and took the decision on Monday to pursue alternative targets. According to the Manchester Evening News, City chiefs have assured Guardiola that he will be given funds to sign a world-class striker in the summer transfer window. And the report claims that Griezmann is a player who is ‘admired’ by Guardiola. The France international was wanted by Manchester United in the summer but he ended up rejecting a move to Old Trafford due to Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban.

If that ends up being the song for Tevez I think I may very well cry.
There have been plenty of quality, funny, imaginative songs for Tevez, I hope we don't end up resorting to the same old shite.
A new song for Robbie is needed as well.

Reason why Alexis Sanchez chose Man Utd over Man City revealed
Alexis Sanchez favours a move to Manchester United over Manchester City due to concerns he would not get as much playing time under Pep Guardiola.
That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who claim sources close to the player feel his playing prospects would be more enhanced by a move to the red side of the city, as opposed the blue.
The Chilean is on the verge of quitting Arsenal in a reported move that is set to earn him £350,000 a week – pitching him as the Premier League’s highest earner.
But it’s his first-team prospects, rather than the money, which has been cited as the real reason why the former Barcelona man favours a switch to United.
Sanchez believes he can become a pivotal part of Jose Mourinho’s frontline – with our Monday Verdict explaining why United could comfortably use a player of his creativity in their line-up.
That’s compared to Man City, where the MEN claims Sanchez believes he would find himself on an equal footing with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling in the battle for a place in the forward line.
Conversely, City pulled out of the race to sign Sanchez on Monday, with two reasons cited – the first of which was United’s reported interest, and the second being that the club had decided they did not want to upset the balance in their squad by bringing in Sanchez now on more money than their existing top earners.
However, United’s chances of landing the player appear to hinge on Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving the other way to Arsenal – and Wednesday’s Paper Talk claims the Armenian has made some pretty high wage demands of his own.
Discussing the potential deal on Monday, Mourinho said: “Not confident, but also not unconfident.
“Just relaxed, and with the feeling that he is an Arsenal player, with the feeling that he can stay there, but also with the feeling that he can move, and if he moves, I think we have a chance.
“I think most probably a player like him has other big clubs interested. Who knows?
“I think him, (Arsenal manager Arsene) Wenger, (Arsenal chief executive Ivan) Gazidis – I think they are the ones that know really what is going to happen.”

Shakhtar midfielder Fred cut to 6/1 for Manchester City move
Manchester City could be about to add another Brazilian to their ranks, according to the latest odds.
After missing out on Alexis Sanchez, the Citizens have been cut from 10/1 to 6/1 to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred.
Pep Guardiola is said to be a fan of the defensive midfielder who shone against City in the Champions League earlier this season.
He featured in both matches against the runaway Premier League leaders and played the full-90 minutes as the Sky Blues suffered a first defeat of the season at the Metalist Stadium.
His impressive performances have also brought a recall to the Brazil national squad after two years on the sidelines.
Should the 24-year-old ace make the move to the Etihad, he would become the fifth Brazilian player contracted by the Sky Blues.
Following a run of bets on Fred making the switch, a move now looks likely.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Fred ticks a lot of boxes, and it’s not hard to see why punters think he could be a defensive midfielder for the Citizens.”

Man City boss Pep Guardiola spotted watching Mansfield game
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, whose team will play Cardiff City after they won the FA Cup third-round replay against Mansfield Town, was at the One Call Stadium watching the game on Tuesday night.
And Stags CEO Carolyn Radford tweeted a picture featuring the former Barcelona boss.

The first leg between the sides finished 0-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium, but despite an impressive first half display, Neil Warnock's team were 4-1 winners against the plucky League Two outfit.

City have been entertaining fans with stylish, attacking football all season, and are now on the brink of reaching 100 goals for the campaign at record-breaking pace.
The thumping 5-0 victory over Blackburn in the Capital One Cup took the Blues' tally to 99 in all competitions, and Manuel Pellegrini's men will be aiming to hit the century when they host Cardiff at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
If they manage it, they'll be the first English team in history to hit treble figures by the end of January.
City have been virtually unstoppable on home turf so far this term - Arsenal and Spurs were both hit for six, while the Blues put another five past Wigan in the Capital One Cup and four past Manchester United in September.

Manchester City quadruple a matter of time - Kompany
The Belgian believes Manuel Pellegrini's men will win four trophies in a single season sooner or later, and hailed the Chilean's attacking focus since arriving in the summer
Vincent Kompany believes Manchester City will win four major trophies in a campaign, even if they cannot do it this season.
City put one foot in the Capital One Cup final last week when they thrashed West Ham 6-0 in the first leg of their semi-final, while they also qualified for the FA Cup fourth round with a 5-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday, sit second in the Premier League and remain in contention in the Champions League.
Manuel Pellegrini says City can become the first English club to win those four competitions this season and, while Kompany would not set a timeline, the Belgian defender remains confident they can do it one day.
"We can't promise it will happen now, but eventually it will have to happen," the Belgian told reporters.
"We are the players at the moment who have been chosen to do it. If it's not us then it will be other players.
"This club definitely has a target to win every competition possible."
City's attacking prowess has been critical to their success so far during the 2013-14 season with Pellegrini's side scoring their 99th goal in all competitions in the win over Blackburn.
And Kompany has hailed Pellegrini's attacking focus in his first season at City since the Chilean manager replaced Roberto Mancini at the Etihad.
"He's very offensive-minded and I think that's shown in our results and the way we play," Kompany added.
"I think we have been one of the best teams to watch in the Premier League so far."

Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko Again a Trying Crowd for Pellegrini
Manchester City recently welcomed supernova striker Sergio Aguero back to the squad after a month gone nursing a calf injury. For most clubs, this development would be an unconditional godsend.
As always seems the case for City, though, it is never as easy as that. Three really is a crowd for City's strike force.
Aguero's return means one of City's other two prolific strikers, Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko, is about to lose playing time—probably a lot of it.
That will be harsh justice for either Negredo or Dzeko. Both men have performed exceptionally well in Aguero's absence, coincidentally scoring eight goals apiece in all competitions in that month.
In advance of the Sky Blues' return to Premier League play this weekend, City manager Manuel Pellegrini was asked what he makes of this blush-worthy wealth of striking talent at his disposal. As ever, Pellegrini wondered aloud what the problem could possibly be.
"For me, that is not a problem. It is a problem when you don't have players to choose. I think that Alvaro and Edin are in a very good moment. It is very important for the team that Sergio came back," Pellegrini observed dryly, according to Richard Jolly of ESPNFC.com.
Of course it is not a problem right now, because so far none of the three world-class strikers has recently been told he is not good enough to play over the other two.
In fact, Aguero's return against Blackburn Rovers in City's last match, a third-round FA Cup replay, was the best of all worlds for Pellegrini.
Who will lose the most playing time with Sergio Aguero's return from injury?
Edin DzekoAlvaro NegredoNeither—Aguero, Dzeko and Negredo will play equallySubmit Votevote to see results
Aguero was eased back into action and scored within a minute of taking the pitch. Negredo and Dzeko had already claimed a brace apiece before Aguero scored.
Perfect.
But it was not that long ago—November, to be exact—that Dzeko was confessing to his role in chasing former City boss Roberto Mancini out of the Etihad. "I didn’t feel happy about what had happened to me over the last two years. I did not spend enough time on the field," Dzeko said, per Simon Mullock of the Mirror.
So to borrow from the epic 1980s song "Your Love," "Just 'cause you're right that don't mean I'm wrong."
Pellegrini is right to be thrilled at the depth of quality options he has at striker with four trophy quests still underway.
But he still needs to keep an ear to the ground to suss out and stamp out any discontent from the one who ultimately proves three a crowd.

Manchester City's Youngsters Are Also Scoring Outrageous Goals
Zackarias Faour is making waves in the Manchester City under-16 side, and the Swede underlined his potential with a ridiculous goal for the youth team against ASPQ this week.

His placed, curling effort takes audacity to think of, let alone to pull off.

Quinn: Pellegrini has brought harmony to Man City
Former Manchester City striker Niall Quinn claims Manuel Pellegrini's calm presence has brought harmony to the Blues.
The Chilean arrived at the Etihad last summer, following Roberto Mancini’s departure, and is leading the club on a historic quadruple chase this season.
Mario Balotelli’s training ground bust-up, along with Carlos Tevez’s refusal to come off the bench in a Champions League tie against Bayern Munich, marred the Italian’s time at City.
And former Maine Road favourite Quinn claims the ex-Real Madrid chief has calmed the atmosphere around the club.
“There’s more harmony in the squad under Pellegrini,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “There was too much public fighting the year after they won the Premier League title.
“Mancini seemed to have problems on his mind. There was always something up at press conferences. Photographers would have a field day every time they looked at training. There was always someone fighting, whether that’s Balotelli or Tevez.
“There was a bomb going off every week at Manchester City.
“Pellegrini coming has brought harmony into the dressing room,” he added. “There are smiles on the players’ faces now.

Man City spending under attack AGAIN in Spain
Manchester City have been subject to another attack over their spending.
La Liga president Javier Tebas has taken another swipe at Pep Guardiola's side - after first accusing the Blues of flouting Financial Fair Play rules in September.
In his latest tirade, Tebas says the ownership of City is 'worrying' before criticising the manner in which money has been spent in the transfer market.
"We looked for about 12 months at the situation at Manchester City, and we are really worried about the stability of European football, not just La Liga," Tebas told Sky Sports .
"The football industry is not the same as it was 10 years ago. It's a situation that lacks regulation so football does not get destroyed in many countries.
"The appearance of state-owned football clubs is really worrying, the numbers are there. The fact that PSG and Man City have in the last four years made the biggest investment in players, 30 per cent more than the next biggest investors, says everything.
"Either they are geniuses in the worlds of marketing and commercial rights, or they have won the lottery."
City threatened legal action against Tebas following comments he made last September.
The La Liga president previously accused the Blues of 'peeing in the pool' regarding UEFA guidelines on spending.
It was later revealed Tebas had written a letter to Uefa urging an investigation into the spending by both City and PSG – however Uefa declared City had no case to answer.

Manchester City striker could join Ligue 1 side Amiens in ‘next few hours’
After earlier reports that he has requested a move to an Austrian Bundesliga side, Manchester City-owned striker Olarenwaju “Larry” Kayode looks set for a switch to Ligue 1 instead.
According to a report by RMC Sport, Amiens are close to striking an agreement with City that will see 24-year-old Kayode head to the Stade de la Licorne for the remainder of the season.
Kayode, a Nigerian international, is currently on loan at Girona FC, but has struggled for game time there since he joined on loan following a £3.5million move to Manchester City from Austria Wien in the summer.
Amiens are currently just two points clear of the Ligue 1 relegation zone and hope adding Kayode can bring them some much needed goals – they have scored just 16 in 20 games so far this season.
RMC states that he could go directly to Amiens from Girona without even returning to Manchester should the two clubs finalise an agreement.

Real Madrid ready to test Man City resolve with Raheem Sterling bid
Image
REAL MADRID boss Zinedine Zidane wants Manchester City star Raheem Sterling to replace Gareth Bale.
The Wales international has struggled for form and fitness in recent months.
Following an injury ravaged year at the Bernabeu, Real are widely expected to listen to offers for the ex-Tottenham ace this summer.
And, according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, club chiefs in Madrid have earmarked Sterling as his replacement.
It’s suggested a raid this month isn’t likely.
However, Real will test City’s resolve once the season ends.
The former Liverpool man - who moved to City for £44m in 2015 - has scored 14 goals in 21 Premier League games.
City lost 4-3 to the Reds over the weekend.
But Pep Guardiola’s men still look nailed on for title glory with a mammoth 12 point lead over Manchester United in second spot.

Manchester City keen on Paris Saint-Germain teenager Claudio Gomes
Manchester City have expressed an interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain academy midfielder Claudio Gomes, according to a report.
The 17-year-old, one of the French club's most highly rated young players, has played 326 minutes over five outings in the UEFA Youth League this season.
Gomes has also been training with Unai Emery's first team but is reportedly unsure about his chances of playing regularly and has yet to sign a professional contract.
According to the Daily Mail, Man City have been in touch with the France Under-18 captain, who in turn is believed to be interested in making the move to the Etihad Stadium.
Both City and PSG are excelling in their respective leagues, boasting sizeable leads at the summits of England and France's top flight.

Man City could move to secure £28M ace following failure to land Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez
Man City could have their sights set on pursuing Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez, after the club pulled out of the running for Arsenal and Chile star Alexis Sanchez.
This is according to the Manchester Evening News, who report that the Premier League table toppers have left the running to sign Sanchez, and that the club could now move for Martinez.
The news outlet are also stating that the 26-year-old would cost the club £28M, and that they could move for the player following their failure to sign Sanchez, as by signing both, it would’ve meant that one wouldn’t have been able to be registered in the club’s Champions League squad.
Man City could move for £28M-rated Martinez following their failure to land Sanchez
Since coming through the club’s youth system, Martinez has seem himself cement a place in Sociedad’s side due to his capability of putting in solid performances.
During his time with the first team, Martinez has been able to make 238 appearances, with the player scoring 17 and assisted seven in that time.
Martinez’s physical presence and ability on the ball has seen some label the player as one of the most underrated and able players in La Liga.
The Spanish international would be a welcome signing for City, as the centre-back area is one that they don’t have the most depth in to say the least.
Should City decide to move for Martinez, it should give Guardiola’s side the defence stability they need to win their third Premier

Ferdinand: Alexis has got more opportunities to win trophies at Man City
Rio Ferdinand believes Alexis Sanchez should join Manchester City and not Manchester United if he wants to win trophies.
Alexis was close to joining Manchester City, but could soon be joining Manchester United instead. The potential move had confused many, who had been led to believe Alexis wanted to leave for trophies, and not just more money.
Even Rio Ferdinand, a United legend, feels that City is the place to be if a player wants success. “If he has got an option to go from Arsenal to go to Manchester City or Manchester United, as a footballer who wanted to win trophies, Manchester City looks like the place to go,” he told BT Sport.

Sunderland reportedly plotting a move for striker from EPL giants
According to reports, Sunderland are interested in signing Manchester City striker Lukas Nmecha.
The 19-year-old made his first team debut for City against Leicester in the Carabao Cup last month and is reportedly available for loan.
It is unlikely that Nmecha will get much game time with the Citizens so him going on loan will help him to get valuable experience as well as try to prove to the City hierarchy that he is worth consideration for the first team.

Man Utd star Phil Jones makes Man City claim: Never say never
PHIL JONES reckons Manchester United’s title meltdown six years ago shows rivals Manchester City can still be overhauled.
City hold a 12-point lead in the Premier League title race and look a shoo-in to claim glory this term.
But United closed the gap on City with Monday's 3-0 victory over Stoke after their neighbours suffered their first loss of the season against Liverpool at Anfield.
In Jones' first campaign at Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson's United were eight points ahead of City in April with six games to go.
They famously let the league crown slip through their fingers on the final day when Sergio Aguero scored late on against Queens Park Rangers.
Defender Jones said: “Football's football, never say never.
"I remember in my first season [2011-12] we were eight points clear, absolutely cruising, (everyone thought there was) no way we'd let the lead slip, and we lost it on the final day.
"People can say what they want but we'll continue to be positive and push forward. You never know. It happened in 2012 to us so why not?"
Jose Mourinho has been criticised for United's defensive approach against the top teams this season, including their 0-0 draw against Liverpool at Anfield in October.
Jones, however, is satisfied with the manager's tactical plans and believes the results prove the club are on the right track.
He added: “People will criticise, people will have their own comments, views, but we don't care too much about that to be honest.
"We do what we do best, we set up the way the manager wants us to play and it works.
"We're doing well, we need to keep going. It's another big game on Saturday against Burnley."
United take on Burnley, who secured a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture last month, on Saturday.

January net spend Bollox
Over the past 10 seasons, Manchester City have a net spend of £135million during the January transfer window, almost three times the number of Tottenham and nine times the number of local rivals Manchester United.
New figures from UK job board CV-Library have found that the ‘big six’ – Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs – are responsible for over half (56%) of all January expenditure across the past 10 seasons.
Looking at the total 10-year spend of any side, Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea have forked out an eye-watering £250million on new recruits since the 2006-2007 season. The Blues, however, only have a modest net spend of £6million due to recouping over £240million thanks to the sales of the likes of Oscar, Juan Mata and Andre Schurrle.
The Premier League’s Big Six’s net spend across the past 10 seasons:
Club Net spend Income Expenditure
Man City £135,095,000 £50,525,000 £185,620,000
Tottenham £47,375,000 £64,405,000 £111,780,000
Arsenal £42,482,920 £13,106,080 £55,589,000
Man Utd £14,430,000 £58,800,000 £73,230,000
Chelsea £6,030,000 £243,370,000 £249,400,000
Liverpool £3,226,00 £104,504,000 £107,730,000

In comparison, London rivals Tottenham have a net spend of almost £50million despite spending less than half that of their blue counterparts.
North London competitors Arsenal chart fifth on the overall list with a net spend of £42million, with their biggest outlay going towards diminutive Russian Andrey Arshavin in the 2008-2009 season.
Stoke City come in third overall due to the modest income they have received through player sales. The Potters have sold 28 players to the tune of £11million, an average cost of just £409,000 per player – the lowest of any current Premier League side that has spent a full season in the league and in stark contrast to Chelsea who average a whopping £11million per player sold.
Newly-promoted Huddersfield Town have spent and received the least out of all 20 Premier League clubs – the Terriers have dished out £4million on players since the 2006-2007 season, almost three times less than closest rivals Brighton (£11million), and only 6% of the average expenditure across the whole league.
Only four Premier League clubs have a positive net spend, with Newcastle United substantially leading the way through a profit of over £30million. Watford, Swansea and West Bromwich Albion all follow the Magpies but are still over £11million less combined.

You've got to hand it to Pep though; in that picture he's the epitome of stylish, sartorial, Spanish (or, rather, Catalan) elegance.

He certainly wears that flat cap with great panache and there's nothing anfractuous about the way the girl is trying to get close to him.......he's a veritable woman magnet.

Do you reckon PP, he might not have discussed this first, with a certain Dortmund fan on this forum ??

I wonder what is his ”agent” fee.

I know this is very simplistic, but I've never accepted all the reasons and arguments for a Club 'having' to pay the agent's fees.

The agent is employed by the player and, therefore, to my mind it should come out of his pocket at the end of the day.

Something that should be enforced by FIFA.

His buyout clause has dropped to £92m this transfer window.

Honestly I don't think Griezmann is good enough to join us. Certainly not as an upgrade to the first team.

Sanchez didn't seem overly concerned about 'playing time' when he was bouncing around celebrating his move to us with his Chilean team-mates in the summer.

So Sanchez thinks our squad is too good for him to get much game time, but the rags are so crap he will play a lot. Seems a good judge to me.

I wish that cunt from Spain would just shut the fucl up about us. His anfractuous tirades are getting tedious now.
