BREAKING BOLLOX
Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has signed a two-year contract extension until 2020.

Fernandinho has signed a contract extension with Manchester City, committing himself to the club until 2020.
Talks have been ongoing between City and Fernandinho for a number of months, with the 32-year-old's previous contract due to expire in the summer.
The Brazil international has now agreed a deal which will see him remain at the Etihad for at least another two seasons.

Manchester City express interest in Liverpool midfielder Emre Can as Reds eye Germany teammate Leon Goretzka
Juventus and Bayern Munich are also interested and Can himself would prefer a switch to the Allianz Arena
Manchester City have expressed an interest in Emre Can - but his future could depend on Liverpool’s pursuit of his international teammate Leon Goretzka.
The Germany midfielder has so far refused all offers of a new deal, and with his contract up in the summer, is free to sign a pre-contract with overseas clubs at any time.
Can though, has shown little interest in a sustained approach from Juventus... and that is because he would be interested in a return to Bayern Munich, where he started his senior career.
Bayern have been in a tug of war with Liverpool though, over Schalke’s talented 22 year old Goretzka, who is also a free agent in the summer, and will decide in the next few weeks where he wants to play next season.
Munich seems his most likely destination, but if he chooses Anfield then that would pave the way for Can to open talks about a return to Germany.
Bayern are unlikely to sign more than one midfielder in the summer, and if they do secure Goretzka, then the Liverpool player will instead lean towards staying in the Premier League.
He revealed last week he will not move until the summer, and also suggested he could still sign a new deal at Anfield.
Man City have expressed an interest in the 24-year-old, and Arsenal could too be a possible destination on a free transfer next season.
But Can will wait to see if Munich are out of the running before he makes any definitive decision on his future.
Liverpool meanwhile are ready to talk over striker Daniel Sturridge’s future, after approaches from both Inter Milan and Sevilla over a possible loan deal.
Transfer news LIVE: Manchester United, City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea latest from the January window
The Reds are reluctant to let him depart without some guarantees any club taking him on loan will pay all of he wages, and offer some assurances over a permanent move in the summer.

Hello All,

Manchester City pay record £175,000 to sign 13-YEAR-OLD sensation Finley Burns from Southend
Manchester City have continued their drive to recruit the best young talent in world football by paying a record amount for a 13-year-old.
City have signed Finley Burns from Southend United, with The Times reporting the deal is worth an initial £175,000 and could eventually rise to £250,000.
The highly-rated youngster was also being eyed by Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal after impressing for Southend's Under-16 side.
Liverpool are claimed to have made an official approach for the defender, but City won the race after offering the League One side a staggering deal.
The £175,000 fee is unprecedented for a player of Burns' age and, according to The Times, almost £150,000 more than they are obliged to pay under the terms of the Elite Player Performance Plan.
Burns has already moved to the north west with his family to join up with City's academy, and the club are convinced they have landed a star of the future.

Martin Keown calls Man United target Alexis Sanchez a "mercenary" and says it's all about the money with him
The Chilean was expected to sign for Manchester City but now looks set to join their rivals Manchester United
Martin Keown has taken aim at Alexis Sanchez, labelling him a "mercenary" and claiming it's all "about the money" with him.
Sanchez appeared set to sign for Manchester City this January, after he nearly secured a move to the Etihad in the summer to link back up with Pep Guardiola.
But the Citizens were not prepared to meet his eye-watering wage demands, and Manchester United - in desperate need of some firepower - swooped.
The Chilean has agreed terms with the Red Devils in a deal worth nearly £500,000 per week, and will link up with his new team-mates imminently, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan potentially heading in the opposite direction.
Former Arsenal defender Keown recently spoke out about the Sanchez transfer saga, and revealed his thoughts on the Chilean suddenly favouring a move to Old Trafford over Manchester City.
"Sanchez has got to be the biggest mercenary in football," said Keown, writing in his Daily Mail column.
"Manchester City have wanted to sign Sanchez since the summer and, if no deal is done in January, they will be waiting for him at the end of the season.
"City would be the natural place for Sanchez to go to develop his football. He has worked with Pep Guardiola before.
Sanchez was expected to sign for Manchester City (Image: Getty Images Europe)
"But for Sanchez, this is clearly not about going to the best team, working with Guardiola and taking his game to another level.
"He has probably thought that he will not get a better offer if he waits until the summer, so he might as well take the best deal on offer now. It has been all about the money."

Alexis Sanchez would still prefer Man City move over Man Utd - BBC Sport reporter
ALEXIS SANCHEZ would still prefer to play for Manchester City over Manchester United, according to BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone.
Arsenal star Sanchez is close to completing a move to Manchester United.
Pep Guardiola’s side pulled out of the deal on Monday after refusing to offer more than £20million for the 28-year-old.
But despite the move to Old Trafford so far down the line, Stone claims he has heard Sanchez would still favour a switch to the Etihad.
“Manchester City, the word is he would still prefer to play for them,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
Sanchez is set to earn £500,000-a-week at United and Stone admits it is hard to argue that it is an attractive proposition for the forward.
“But when you look at these figures, they are eye-watering and they go a long way to explaining why Alexis Sanchez is going to spend the second half of this season and the next four seasons after that playing for Manchester United,” he added.
“So we’re talking about a £30million transfer fee, which is quite a lot for somebody who is available for free in the summer.
“In addition £14m tax free, which means another £13m in tax that is being paid for him.
“So it’s £27m in salary, a £20m signing-on fee, and a £10m agents fee. In total, over four-and-a-half years, that adds up to £180m.
“It’s half a million quid a week United have committed to this.”

Manchester City's slapstick history keeps fans on edge in title race
The mentality of Manchester City fans is something that could fascinate psychologists for eternity. Growing up following a club that is so adept at bounding down the most nonsensical path imaginable, not only not trying to stop it but actively steering the car over the cliff edge, has led to the sort of conditioning that makes some worry their lead at the top of the Premier League might not be enough.
Only the sort of fans who watched their club waste time to secure a 2-2 draw with Liverpool that wasn't enough to avoid relegation in 1996 or who saw Jamie Pollock score one of the most spectacular own goals of all time to help send the team down to the third tier -- its lowest ever position -- could worry about being caught this season.
Outsiders will never know or understand that terror. Neutrals look at City's position, 12 points clear of Manchester United, having lost once all season and having won 20 of their 23 league games, as an opportunity to build one of the best top flight campaigns football has seen.
City fans believe it to present them the chance to go down in history as the side that blew one of the biggest Premier League leads ever. Only they could be history's greatest bottlers, confined to the top spot of those straight-to-DVD shows that count down the most embarrassing sporting moments.
Of course, football fans are superstitious sorts. They like routine and lucky charms because it gives them comfort and makes them believe they have an element of control over something that is far beyond their reach. There is a part of City's followers being self-deprecating because of how badly things have gone for them in the past from relatively good positions, but there is also the fear of being left embarrassed.
If City do fail from this position, at least they can say they had never counted their chickens too early or that they had seen the inevitable crash happening.
It means that proof the Premier League leaders are fallible -- a 4-3 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday -- backed up by their failure to capture Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, despite it looking like a done deal for the last six months, has been met with concern that the wheels could be about to fall off the season.
This isn't something Manchester United or Chelsea fans have feared when they've been watching their teams dominate a campaign and open up a sizeable lead at the top of the table. It's a quirk of following City -- and one Pep Guardiola will be doing his best to destroy.
It could be an impossible fight for the manager, though. It's possibly a mentality that will never go away, no matter how good City become and how regularly they're able to win titles. Perhaps supporters will always be worried that their time in the sun is coming to an end, scared of the pride before a fall.
As the manager prepares to bounce back from defeat at Anfield with the visit of Newcastle to the Etihad on Saturday evening, he'll have to take into account that there will be nerves inside the stands. If there's even a hint of City starting the game badly, supporters will be on edge. There's already a worried buzz if the home side haven't scored before half time in matches -- that will be amplified by the events of the last week.
What will be putting supporters more at ease is that they couldn't be up against a better side to help them bounce back from defeat. Newcastle haven't beaten City in the Premier League in their last 20 meetings, a run that dates back to the Stuart Pearce era at Eastlands in 2005. More recently, City have won 13 of their last 14 games against the Magpies.
With Guardiola looking for a reaction from Sunday's defeat and a hit-and-miss Newcastle side lining up against them, it could be the perfect game for his team to show they aren't the City of old and they don't wilt under pressure. They've been showing it all season so far, barring the blip at Liverpool, so there's no reason to think Saturday evening will be any different.
Even when performing badly in defeat at Anfield -- and it was City's worst performance of the season -- they continued to play how Guardiola instructs and it almost helped them steal what would have been an undeserved point had they found a late equaliser. This is a tight-knit group of players and a team that has total belief in its style putting on a show of some of the best football in Europe right now.
There's no need for City fans to worry about how this season could be next in line to the haunting images of Pollock hanging his head as he trudged back to the halfway line or Steve Lomas shielding the ball by the corner flag.

Manchester City poised to offload Olarenwaju Kayode, months after hijacking Newcastle move
Image
According to RMC Sport, Manchester City are poised to send Olarenwaju Kayode on loan to French side Amiens, with a view to a permanent deal.
Kayode, 24, starred in his two years with Austria Vienna, scoring 37 goals in 85 games for the Austrian side, and his goalscoring exploits saw him make a big move over the summer.
The Nigerian international joined Manchester City on a four-year deal back in August in a shock move, but immediately farmed him out on loan to sister club Girona.
Kayode has struggled to make an impact in Spain though, starting just two La Liga games and making a further 10 substitute appearances whilst failing to find the net.
With no goals and one assist to his name this term, Kayode has now been recalled by City, and RMC Sport report that he will instead be loaned out to French side Amiens, with the option of a permanent deal.
City already appear to be ready to offload Kayode, and that may be interesting to Newcastle United, who were snubbed by the striker over the summer.
Newcastle were set to sign Kayode over the summer before Pep Guardiola swooped in and signed him at the last minute, hijacking the Magpies' move.
Whilst summer signing Joselu hasn't quite been what Newcastle fans were hoping for, it seems that the Magpies may have actually dodged something of a bullet by not signing Kayode, whose City career appears to be over before it really began.

BIRTHDAY BOLLOX

Newcastle United may not be the Entertainers, but that doesn't mean they will meekly surrender
Image
Having watching Liverpool end Manchester City's unbeaten run, Rafa Benitez and Co will be in doubt over what is needed this weekend
So the impossible – or perhaps inevitable – happened and Manchester City have lost at Premier League level. Talk of hunting down Arsenal’s Invincibles is no more. Just as Newcastle are about to hit town, City get turned over in a spectacular, rip-roaring match of cascading goals
And doesn’t it remind you a tad our great days when the Mags resided among the country’s elite? Remember going to Liverpool and losing 4-3, just like Man City?
The Entertainers, shooting for the title after having a huge points lead, getting beaten in a game voted the best ever witnessed in the Premier League.
A 12-point advantage over eventual champions Manchester United was being whittled away as Newcastle pitched up at Anfield in April of 1996 and came out on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller of shuddering proportions.
A year later, in March of 1997, the return to Merseyside brought an identical 4-3 home victory though it was nowhere near as enthralling an encounter.
Nevertheless we can only look back on those salad days of successive PL runners-up finishes with nostalgia and envy. A lot has gone wrong since. Yet again this week when takeover hopes that have fuelled Geordie souls were explosively dashed.
If Man City go into battle on the back of defeat then what is the mood of Rafa Benitez and United fans?
What Rafa feels deep down is what now matters, apparently denied his escape route from what seems like restrictions of Mike Ashley. On the surface United’s boss is ever the politician but beneath hopes must be crushed – unless he knows something we don’t!
Will City’s loss to Liverpool make it any easier for United tomorrow tea? Not ruddy likely. United haven’t the power or the energy of the Red attackers and every Geordie recognises that.
City are at home and will be irritated by their setback. They will be thirsting for normal service to be resumed.
It can even be argued that, having rid themselves of the pressure of having to avoid defeat every game, City are now freed up to play expansive football at will.
Amanda Staveley and PCP Capital Partners refuse to back out of Newcastle United takeover bid
United were heavily criticised for an ultra-defensive performance when City arrived at SJP recently and were restricted to a 1-0 victory. This time Hadrian’s Wall as well as a parked bus may be required to block the way to goal. Fair enough – let’s do it if Rafa thinks it might work and to heck with the critics. The Entertainers we’re no longer but why should we walk meekly, willingly to the gallows and surrender?
United are fighting for their very lives and ought to aim for points in whatever way they can get them.
Newcastle have actually won back-to-back games on the road – thank goodness given the paucity of their home record – but making it a hat-trick of three pointers would take a miracle. That’s not to say we shouldn’t try.
It could be like King Canute ordering back the waves and therefore two banks of players willing to defend with discipline, courage, and determination will be required to repel all raiders in the hope that somehow the Mags can get at City’s one weakness, the soft underbelly at the centre of their defence.
Maybe Dwight Gayle’s pace rather than Joselu’s more pedantic craft would be more effective against John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi who don’t relish direct runners. Though will Rafa agree? Favourite Joselu scored last week when coming on while Gayle missed two gilt-edged chances.
Dennis Wise insists Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley IS prepared to spend some money in January
Certainly if Stones has to defend properly then so has Jamaal Lascelles and those around him.
Players are unlikely to be greatly affected by Ashley stating he’s pulled the plug on Amanda Staveley – they are by nature too inward looking to care too much or realise the general implications – but Rafa could well privately consider his rosy future on Tyneside has been suddenly plunged into darkness.
A shaft of light in the blue half of Manchester will be mighty hard to find.

Arsene Wenger is fake, Jose Mourinho better, says former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor
Image
Former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor who won the hearts of the Gunners with his goalscoring exploits during his stint with the club has called Arsene Wenger a fake manager who he hates. Meanwhile, the Togolese striker has hailed Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho for being honest during his time under him at Real Madrid. As per him the Portuguese is by far a better manager than Wenger and keeps his players motivated to win unlike him. One of a few players to have played for the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Real Madrid, Adebayor opened up on his times under two of the greatest managers in football.
The outspoken striker who is currently plying his trade for Turkish league leaders Istanbul Basaksehir, said, Mourinho, is one of the managers he will always love and revealed the reason why. “Mourinho is one of the managers I loved and will always love.He is one of the [most] honest managers I have met in my career, which is crazy because most of the managers are all kind of like fake,” he said. He further went on to explain how Wenger didn’t support him during his time with the club forcing him to secure a transfer away.
“As an example, I had a meeting with Arsene Wenger in his office when he told me I had to leave because he doesn’t see my future any more in Arsenal. I have to move on in my life. “I was like ‘I’m going to stay.’ He was like ‘no there is not even a fight organised. We are not going to organise any fight for you. You move out or you stay here and don’t play any games.’
“So I didn’t have any other choice than joining Man City which I was very happy to join.
“And the next day when I joined Manchester City I saw him doing a press conference in London saying that I wanted to leave because the money was big and everything and since that day that is where the hate for Arsenal came from,” he explained.
Adebayor scored 46 times in 104 appearances for Arsenal and became a fan favourite at the Emirates. However, things became sour between him and Wenger in 2009 and he was asked to find his future at a different club by the manager. He moved to City where he played 34 games while scoring 15 times before being sent to Real Madrid on a loan.
Despite his long stint under Wenger, Adebayor reckons Mourinho as his favourite. He also revealed that he still respects the Arsenal fans who made him feel like a superstar at Arsenal but adds that he no more wants his former London club to win games. “Not the fans because the fans are the first English fans to sing my name in London. Even today when I watch them play I want them to win but at the same time I want them to lose because the anger in me is too big,” he was quoted as saying by the Mirror.
Before moving to Real on a loan to play under Mourinho, the striker enthusiastically celebrated his goal against Arsenal while playing for City. Talking about the celebration in an interview, he reflected how it felt like a prisoner was set free when he ran towards the Arsenal supporter stand and performed a knee slide in front of them.
“I play for the club for three and a half years. They bought me for three or four million they sold me for 27 million they still calling me names. They are still telling me I leave for money?,” he said.
“You bought me for three million I still have five years of contract and you let me go for 20 million more and you are telling me I am the one leaving for money and abusing me,” he added. He also reflected on his time under Mourinho and termed him as a hard-working manager who would do anything to win.
“Mourinho is a manager that wants to win a trophy no matter what it takes, even if he has to park the bus, the train or a plane he just wants to win and will do everything it takes to win. He will not sleep. He will work 24 hours to win one game and Arsene just loves to bring kids in and make them become big players. He is like a teacher,” he said.

Mario’s packed ‘n ready
MARIO BALOTELLI is all packed up and ready to join AC Milan in a £24million deal.
The Manchester City striker, 22, has given notice on his rented house in Cheshire and has also begun flying his possessions back to Milan.
His representative Mino Raiola was in Italy this week for talks over a move back to the San Siro.
City boss Roberto Mancini is now happy to see the back of a player who has caused him nothing but trouble since his £22m switch from Inter in 2010.
Despite AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi recently calling him a ‘rotten apple’, the Italian giants still want him to spearhead their strikeforce. Balotelli is also desperate for the move having grown disillusioned at City and homesick for Italy.
He is a lifelong AC Milan fan, despite winning the Serie A title with Inter under Mancini, and it would be a dream move for him.
City will hold out for £24m but it now looks certain that his turbulent City career is almost over.
Balotelli has scored just once in the league this season and was recently involved in a furious training ground bust-up with boss Mancini.
Now first-choice striker Sergio Aguero is fit again, Balotelli will be back to fourth choice behind him, fellow Argie Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko (A Sun Exclusive apparently)

I nearly retired after Mancini bust-up, admits Tevez
The Argentina international striker revealed that he was close to calling time on his playing career after the well-publicised row with the Manchester City manager last season
Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez admits he considered retirement after his fall-out with manager Roberto Mancini.
The 28-year-old fell out with Mancini during City's Champions League group stage match against Bayern Munich last season, when Tevez refused to take his manager's orders to warm up on the touchline.
The Argentine was vilified and told he wouldn't play for the club again, leading him to fall out of love with the game and seriously consider retiring from it completely.
"Last year I almost retired," Tevez told Rock and Closs.
"I had lost the desire to play, alone in my room, crying. When the bad times come, they all come together. With the Argentina national team we were eliminated from the Copa America at home, after the fight with Roberto [Mancini] I did not want anything more to do with football.
"Luckily today I'm fine, I regained the desire to play."
Tevez explained how much he dislikes being left out of the team but also said that he is more relaxed than he was before and enjoys a more 'cordial' relationship with Mancini now.
"My relationship with Mancini is cordial, I'm hot blooded, I do not like to go out or be on the bench," he added.
"Before, when he took me out of the team or did not include me on initial lineup, I insulted him ... now I'm more relaxed."
Tevez has scored 10 goals in 28 games for Manchester City this season and says he is physically ready to help the club push on for the second part of the campaign.
"Physically I'm fine. I feel good and fast. Maybe I'm missing goal-hunger, now I think more about accompanying the play or generating a pass-goal."

Roberto Mancini warns Vincent Kompany to improve his tackling
Roberto Mancini has urged Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany to “pay more attention to his tackles” following his controversial red card against Arsenal.
Image
Kompany will be free to play against Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday after successfully appealing against his dismissal at the Emirates. But with Kompany earning a three-match ban for a similar challenge on Manchester United winger Nani last season, Mancini admitted the Belgian needed to adapt his playing style to avoid further problems with referees.
“Sometimes, when a defender is under pressure, he can make a bad tackle and I think Vinny needs to pay more attention because this has happened twice,” Mancini said. “We could have a problem if we have another situation like this and I spoke with Vinny and told him to pay more attention when he tackles. Sometimes it is better not to tackle.”

Mancini, meanwhile, insisted that Pep Guardiola’s decision to manage Bayern Munich had not changed his own situation at Manchester City.
Former Barcelona coach Guardiola had been linked with City following the appointments of Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain as chief executive and sporting director respectively at the Etihad. Guardiola worked with both men at Barcelona.
Mancini said: “I understand people should write that every manager wants to take this place [City job] because it is a good place.

Joleon Lescott has shrugged off speculation surrounding his future and claims he is fully committed to Manchester City.
Reports during the winter transfer window have suggested that Lescott could be allowed to leave the Etihad Stadium, with Roberto Mancini currently favouring other centre-half options.
A switch to Aston Villa has been touted, with Lescott having grown up supporting the Birmingham-based club.
The England international is aware of the reports, but insists there is no substance to them.
He has offered no indication that he is looking for a move and maintains that he is prepared to stay at City and fight for a starting spot.
Lescott told the Daily Telegraph's Carlfeedthegoat "I came to the club to win trophies. I have done that and I feel there is a chance to win more this season.
"So I am more than happy to stay and fight for a place in the team.
"I went to see the manager about my situation and what we said will stay between us, but we both came out of the conversation happy and content with what we spoke about.
"While I would like to start every game, I am also aware that, with the strength of the squad, that just isn't going to happen, but I am more than happy to play my part whenever needed."

City were a bit lucky last season
Fulham manager Martin Jol risked upsetting Manchester City supporters ahead of today's meeting by claiming they were “a bit lucky” to win the title last term.
The Sky Blues snatched the title off fierce rivals Manchester United with a last minute winner against QPR.
“I feel that they are in a similar position to what they were before - all of the top three clubs,” the Dutchman said.
“They have to fight for everything and last year, of course, they were a bit lucky - (to win it) on the last day, in the final seconds.
“And maybe it could be the same (this season) because it was quite exciting. There is not a lot between teams like City and Manchester United.
“They are out of Europe but they can live with it and focus on the league now so that is one advantage they have got over United.”
