Gary Neville orders Manchester United to hijack Manchester City’s transfer move for Aymeric Laporte
Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes his former club must compete with Manchester City for the signature of Aymeric Laporte. City have been linked with Laporte since Pep Guardiola took charge and it appears the Catalan is on the verge of getting his man after a deal was agreed for the 23-year-old Athletic Bilbao defender. Jonny Evans looked set for a move to the Etihad earlier in the January transfer window but Arsenal are now in pole position for the West Brom star as City hone in signing Laporte. Neville is well aware of Laporte’s immense potential from his time in charge of Valencia and has urged Jose Mourinho to hijack City’s move for the highly-rated French centre-back. ‘In my very short time in Spain we played them 3 times! This lad can play! Get in United,’ the ex-United right-back tweeted. ‘It’s really hard to get players out of Bilbao and costly but this lad is a very good player.’ (Metro)

Pep Guardiola's latest Man City project showing huge potential
Manchester City were not perfect against Bristol City but that in itself should worry their rivals
Sane ticking along nicely
Leroy Sane can be both a joy and a pain to watch.
No Manchester City player is as sweet to watch in full flow, gliding like a gazelle at serious pace as he bears down on opposition defenders.
Yet just when you think a goal beckons, a miscontrol, a rushed pass or a snatched shot can often bring a disappointing end to a promising move.
To some degree, this is the curse of Sane, Raheem Sterling and all creative players. You won't beat your man every time and not all shots go in.
Pep Guardiola has recognised room for improvement though. He has called on the winger to do the "simple things" better on a number of occasions and reiterated that after watching his decisive intervention against Newcastle at the weekend.
If he showed again against Bristol City that he clearly can make better decision-making, he now has three goals and four assists in his last six games for the
In the absence of Gabriel Jesus, Sane stepping up to take responsibility has been welcomed.
And given the wonders worked with Sterling this season, the thought that Sane has more to deliver than he has been doing should frighten just about everyone.
Shark Team aren't quite deadly
How do you defend a lead? Attack is the Guardiola mantra.
City didn't believe enough last season and it cost them in two cup competitions.
While Bristol City were still in this tie after the third half of four, the Blues looked to have taken the game by the scruff of its neck and killed it when Sergio Aguero scored the second on the night.
The quadruple is still on
However, just as in every previuos round of the competition City made their evening more uncomfortable than it could have been.
Allowing Bristol to score gave them a smidgeon of hope back and even if the Championship side were never going to score the four goals necessary to stun another Manchester side, there was more lax defending in injury time.
It is an improvement from a year ago, although there is still a way to go.
Stones needs a break
It is now six games without a clean sheet for John Stones since his return from injury.
The rock upon which Guardiola built his defence in the first half of the season has looked rather crumbly in 2018, and another unnecessary error will not make for happy viewing today when the game is analysed.
Only Liverpool have earned a lasting advantage from it but City's coach will want the issues addressed as they head into the business end of the season with more knockout football.(MuEN)

Manchester City planning huge Raheem Sterling pay-rise — and a new contract for yet another of their stars
Blues ready to increase England forward's £180,000-a-week by 50% and also reward Gabriel Jesus' rapid progress
Raheem Sterling will become the latest Manchester City player to be handed a new deal to cement his future with the runaway Premier League leaders.
The Blues have tied down Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho with contract extensions in recent weeks — and England forward Sterling is next on their list.
Talks have yet to begin with Sterling’s representatives, but the club have signalled their intention to tie the 23-year-old down to a new long-term deal.
Sterling has two full seasons left on his current £180,000-a-week deal, signed when he made his controversial £49million switch from Liverpool to City back in 2015.
He endured a tough first season in Manchester but has since developed into a consistently high performer, with 18 goals to his name already this season, as well as four assists.
City recognise the need to reward that progress Sterling has made since joining them, with a contract that reflects his new-found status as one of Pep Guardiola’s key players.
The new deal on offer to Sterling is likely to run to 2023 and be worth a basic salary of £220,000-a-week, with bonuses and incentives set to push that figure close to £275,000-a-week.
Sterling has become a more complete player under Guardiola and City are aware his rise in prominence has made him an attractive prospect to the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG.
City will also move to lock Gabriel Jesus into a new long-term deal that will reflect his status as one of the most talented young forwards in world football.
Jesus, who joined from Palmeiras for £27m a year ago on a comparatively modest wage of around £70,000-a-week, can expect to see that more than doubled under the terms of his new deal.
The 20-year-old Brazil international is currently making his way back from injury, and the Blues are ready to begin talks with his team over a contract extension in the coming weeks. (Mirror)

ICONIC SHIRT BOLLOX
Manchester City have had some belting kits over the years but top of the pile is the 1993-94 third kit made by Umbro.
The shirt was white with thin blue pin stripes and a huge City crest and giant collar.
Image
It was worn by City in 1993-94 when their top goal scorer was Niall Quinn, with a whopping 6 goals and donned by legends such a Steve Lomas and Terry Phelan. The shirt however was made famous by Noel and Liam Gallagher.
The shirt was worn by the Oasis front men in the early 90s for the famous photoshoot with MCF.net Q&A man Kevin Cummins.
It was chosen by designer Daryl Higgins as his favourite Manchester City shirt
It has to be the Man City third, from 1993. I guess it’s as iconic now as those Kevin Cummins shots of Noel and Liam Gallagher in them back when Oasis first came on the scene.
Image
It still looks good today and is just so simple. I’d probably wear it too, but they’re so hard to find.
Get your 1993-94 City shirt in our marketplace for £70. (They normally sell for around £120 so its a great price).

Why would/could/should Sterling earn more than KDB? That doesn’t make sense.

£220k plus £55k in bonuses apparently

Which would likely only be reached if we won everything.

I recall Brian Kidd being asked before was Yaya really on over £200k a week, he responded by saying if we won everything it would probably work out something like that.

This season:
Sterling - 19 goals and 4 assists
KDB - 9 goals and 13 assists

How many match winning goals has Sterling scored already this season?

I don’t think it’s out of the realms of possibility that Sterling could be offered more than KDB given his age.
