That could just be an economic decision. We would quite likely get a higher fee were he to be sold in a year or two

Could be mate. Or like Pep said, we wanted him to stay but he chose to move. Makes us look bitter with all this "he wouldn't have made it anyway" (not you by the way).

Who's bitter?

Simple statement of fact, nothing more. Fans inability to assess young players has baffled me all the way back to Ade Mike

Would he have refused to sign the contract if we hadn't signed Mahrez and could see a path to first team? Guess it's all opinions and hindsight but mahrez hardly set the world alight since he signed maybe Diaz given more minutes might have produced as much but for someone who would have left for free in the summer the fee is decent profit on academy product. More worrying is that's Campbell, Duncan, Sancho and Diaz who have refused new contracts and moved on cause can't see a path to first team. Still think if we hadn't of being chasing Sanchez Sancho may have stayed and gotten minutes last season. Hopefully the progress of Foden who will hopefully prove to be most successful of the lot paves way for to first team for others but we are in a position where only the best have a chance with this team.

Disappointed Diaz has gone, but if they won’t sign a contract there’s very little we can do. Impossible to know if the signing of Mahrez made a difference, but it’s difficult to take a risk these days - look at the rags it was an injury crisis that lead to Rashford getting a start.

Duncan was never going to stop with all the history with slippery Steve G at the red scousers, whilst Sancho went on strike and stppped training - I’d worry about his attitude long term. Sturridge is the other one, had his head turned refused to sign a contract extension. I’d love to see more ‘home grown’ players coming through, but I presume we have no decent left backs as they’d be a cert now let alone in the future!!

Disappointed to see him go. I think the lad can make it if the cards fall right for him.

Funny thing is if he and Maffeo come good and for some reason we bring them back they are considered club trained HG players, which is more valuable than for country when you become an over 21 player, particularly for Champions League registration as it would allow you to register more players, and effectively have more options (along with under 21s) if there is an injury crisis or something.

We are 3 under the limit (25), in part, because of this issue, I believe.

I believe Nacho also became club trained in his last season with us (?), but he hasn't shown enough growth and has looked to be a good deal for us, thus far. He's still only 22 though.

Unlike with Sancho, I don't think it's implausible to think they could return.

Talking about bad decisions. Marca is saying he will be off to Villareal next season.

Pep would not have tolerated all that show boating, it rarely gets an end result and leads to you getting a kicking. Sterling has tried bits and you can see how crazy it drives Pep.
