The Best Premier League Side Ever?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

The Best Premier League Side Ever?

Postby sandman » Fri Mar 02, 2018 6:37 am

The 99 season was won with only 79 points, the treble was only achievable because everybody else was so shite, we will have passed that many points in March.

Also the Invincibles finished on 90 points, we could lose five more games and still match that.

So who is the best Premier League side ever?

Oh and the record number of points in a Premier League Season was 95 by Chelsea.

We could lose 3 of our last 10 games and still beat that.

Greatest season? Certainly possible.

Greatest Prem side? Let's see what this team will be able to accomplish in the coming years. Great sides distinguish themselves by longevity.

this. The OP is talking about points. that is different from the squad.
something tells me that the best prem side ever wouldnt have drawn with Burnley.

no thanks.

my point still stands: if you want to be the best side ever you cant draw with this season's Burnley. or worse still, this season's Crystal Palace.

It's not about the squad either and it's even less about individual insignificant draws vs Burnley. It's first and foremost about titles. United won the treble and then defended the league title in the following two seasons. Chelsea won two doubles in three seasons, twice.

We have one League Cup so far. Let's hold off on the eulogies for now, eh?

Burnley are 7th, no shame in drawing with 7th place?

Correct of course it doesn't. Over a premier league season their ir bound to be a game you deserve to win but don't because you just don't take the chances you get. That's what happened in both the away draws and then of course there is the game you lose and deserve to lose as we did at Liverpool.

We are on course to be the best premier league side ever if we set the best points total ever , most goals etc etc but that's onkly the best for one season. Time will tell if we become the best prem side ever as we need to keep winning the league for that one. If we keep Pep I certainly would not bet against it.

Are we playing some of the best football in the prem? Absolutely yes
Are we the best team ever in the premier league? No not yet, we will have to win more first. Things like defending the title and winning at least one champs league too.
It's easy to forget just how good others have been in the past even if it was the Rags.

So who, in your opinion is the best prem side ever?
If you go for United's treble winners who lost a few and also drew with Blackburn who were relegated that year and Wimbledon who only just survived?

Maybe Chelsea 2004/5 team who lost and drew to 8th placed Manchester city?

You're talking bollox Phips. It's football, you get unexpected results.
Look at any accepted great team in their pomp, there's always unexpected results.

Brazil 0 - Czechoslovakia 0 1962 World Cup
Betis (relegated that season) 2 Barcelona 2 2008-9 season at the height of Barca's pomp.
FC Nürnberg 1 Bayern 1 2012-3 season at the height of Bayern's pomp.
As mentioned above, several of the "invincible" Arsenal games of 2003-4, a good example being their 1-1 draw at relegated Leicester.

All of the above regarded as great teams, and the list goes on.

Sorry no chance. You have to play in red and have Ryan Giggles in the team

Presumably a best team is just a one season thing. Teams evolve season to season. So if you take this season in isolation there is every chance people could say "we are the best Prem team ever"
A champions League win would make it hard to argue with.

   and pretty factual summary of Domestic Narrative.

I for one think the open posts reflect well the 2 flips of the coin:
Emotional wise I find myself very much keen to @sandman: closest resemblance of such an arousing footie to watch is the memory of the Orange Cloackwork from the 70s... and I should factor that I was a lad then, thus easy to get aroused.
From a more logical cool pov I think I should agree with @ fangsanalsatan on that we should await for a bolder stamp (Sure to come!) to call for greatest side ever.

Either ways... elated to be here alive and enjoy such a mesmerizing run (notably on a relative cheap, hat off to Owners, when comparing the show on offer with the average low price for attending City live. Value for money @Ethiad vs @Emirates or @TheSwamp... words fail me)

1. "unintelligible language"
2. "ACID QUEEN"
3. "never once fails to turn a football thread into a himseelf thread"
4. "thumbs stalker often resulting in repetitive thumb strain"
5. ignore the cunt. he's on permantent wum mission. only TIDs may know City

You'd need to make a very good psychiatrist in order to guess what next in a eight yrs long line of hatred...

In Roger Ailes/Donnie Drumpf's words: "don't know it for a fact, but many people say so..."
there must be some truth, then!

Sorry John but that is just not true...(except for the Ryan Giggs bit) sometimes you have to play in invisible grey and lose to Southampton.
