24 teams?

I guess this would have some kind of World Cup format, with group games being played at neutral (i.e. highest-paying) venues.

Not a fan of the idea myself, although I would love to see intercontinental club matches played if a decent format was found somehow (maybe by making the CL a straight 64-team knockout competition, finishing it earlier, and involving the final 8 - or 4 + 2 UEFA Cup finalists - in some kind of tournament with teams from the other confederations).

If I'm right, the last time a South American team played a competitive game in Europe was 1979.
