The 32-year-old says he had options to move abroad on a big-money contract.
"That's not me, I need those goals, I need that pressure. That desire to play would have been lost if I'd chosen that other option," he told Football Focus.
Speaking to former Everton team-mate Kevin Kilbane, Rooney said he could have decided to see out his career "earning a lot of money".
But he chose to return to Goodison Park 13 years after leaving the Merseyside club.
"I knew that coming back to Everton was more pressure - that's what I wanted. I wanted to prove myself again to the Everton fans and to try to help this club move forward and win silverware.
"I think it was the perfect fit for me and hopefully in the next two or three years we can do that."
...

Guess his love of Everton was not as strong as he thought :)

are you sure you read that correctly? he just signed a new long-term deal and is set to be named captain next season. Favre loves him after their time at Gladbach. the article I read said that we were interested back in January before he signed his deal.

I read an article on a Dutch football site, referring to a Bild interview. I didn't check Bild myself. Now the Dutch site has taken the article down, so they probably were talking out of their arses.

yeah the recent bild report was about our interest back in March prior to Reus re-upping with Dortmund.

So, basically, some Dutch journalists didn't know how to read German that well. Or Nool isn't that good at Dutch. Or at writing in English. It has to be one of them.

I usually blame the Germans, but this time, it has to be the Dutch. Me? I'm pretty much flawless.

I don't think we'll make a better signing this summer, if you know what I mean. And two more years of shit football for that shower of shit on the way, by the looks of it.

I must have watched the one other match he played in because in both France games I've seen I had him as their weak link.

Jollies are over. Do the non WC members of the squad not assemble tomorrow for pre-season training /tour duty?
Our new signings would be expected to be present and correct no?

And he's been with us before and went back home homesick, was fairly young though if I read right

That's Rabiot mate, he's being linked with a return to us. Looks a classy player but a quite lethargic style from what I've seen, not sure he'd fit.

I like Rabiot, as you say ?. Watching Kun and Silva has me appreciating how good City are. Both have looked lost in so called top sides. Anyone who comes to City has to be amazing to get a shirt, Germany no Sane no legs no chance. Explain that Jogi, Muller playing out wide when he had the best winger ready to terrorise teams with great full backs.
