World Cup | VAR

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

World Cup | VAR

Postby Beefymcfc » Thu Jun 21, 2018 7:03 pm

Probably worth its own thread, don't you think.

Are FIFA using it correctly as there seems to be times that an obvious VAR decision is just ignored?

i suspected something fishy from England's opening game - very selective use and some questionable decisions.

I thought Morocco got totally done over against Portugal yesterday. They should have had at least one, possible two, penalties (blatant shove/jump in the back in the first half + Pepe's handball) but neither incident even got viewed. Today Australia got a penalty for a handball much less obvious than the Pepe's.

They were totally dumbfounded on the radio that I was listening to, could not believe the decision.

Still not seen it but I don't suppose I need to as they made the call from a booth without informing the fans what they seen. And that's the biggest part for me, if the fans don't see what they see it's open to corruption.

Just seeing it now and what absolute nonsense. How they got a deliberate handball out of that is beyond belief and no wonder the ref held his head in shame when he was told to give it.

Pathetic decision, it's now beyond doubt, it's now being used as a tool to control the outcome of games rather than what we wanted.

Well done cunts, you are just that!

His hand was in an unnatural position preventing a shot on goal. Pen.

I would agree on most occasion as a player wants to spread himself but on this it's not the case.

This is your real opinion, not just being contraire?

VAR is a good idea bit it's still a work in progress. I suppose if it becomes more commonplace then it will get better.

Sorry Daz, but absolute cobblers . Danes well ripped of with that decision , which was on par with some of the most bent anti-City
penalty calls I've seen last 4-5 years.

And if course it looks fair now.

Same question to you Rodders. How were they ripped off? His had was in an unnatural position, stopping a shot on goal. Pen.

Seems to be going that way.

I'm also worried about the amount of penalties being awarded. Having around a quarter of all goals scored being penalties will really ruin the long-term enjoyment of the game. It'd be interesting to see a match-by-match progression of the number of penalties as a proportion of the overall goals scored in the tournament, to see whether the application of VAR is being adjusted throughout the World Cup (which it shouldn't be, in my opinion).

Also, discussions with friends after matches are less about key incidents themselves and more about the application of VAR technology for these incidents, which is all a bit unemotional and sterile.

Wasn't a deliberate hand ball, was ball to hand, he couldn't have got out of the way and was using the arms as leverage to jump like everyone does. Never a pen.

I thought the penalty Australia got was fortunate to say the least. I also thought the penalty against Englan was bollocks.
They are the only two incidents I've seen as I've barely watched any of it. It's failing to ignite my enthusiasm
