We're struggling a bit with two fullbacks with wooden pegs.

It's probably an unpopular opinion, but I don't think Mendy is going to shine when we play three at the back.

Why do you say that?

Both teams looking rusty now. Giving the ball away a lot.

Because his strength is running down the channel and providing crosses. When we play 4 at the back (especially against good teams that press us) he doesn't really get the chance to do that (Sané occupies that space) and instead has to participate in the build-up. That's not his forte – he's not great with the ball and struggles with our short passing game.

That said, against weaker opposition, and if e.g. Sterling plays on the left, he will probably do fine in a 4-3-3 as well.

Considering this the first game for 7 of our players starting at two who only played a couple of halves, that very understanding. I think Chavski have more preseason minutes under their belt per man

wonder how many of the 6 changes will come at halftime.... Jesus for Aguero? Otamendi for Stones? Gundogan for Bernardo? Diaz for Foden?

We would have scored at least one more goal of we had Sterling (or another right footed player) in Mahrez position this half.

Ok I see what you mean. But I am understanding you correctly if you're saying that Mendy won't work in a 5 or 4 at the back?

It's a total pre-season minute gainer. My worry is it all starts next week...lots of minutes missing.

5at the back is basically the same as 3 at the back. Especially the way we play with the Wong backs pushing up really high.

I'm not saying he won't work in a back 4, but he won't shine like in a 3-5-2. And against tough opponents who press us high (e.g. Liverpool), I personally will probably prefer Delph on the left if we play 4-3-3.
