I get it mate but it's not all perfection as if it was wed score an average of 15 a game, maybe more. Take Sterling for instance, we massacrs him for his misses but when you compare his stats he's one of the best attacking players in the league, at least within the top 5 and he misses just short of one in 5 of his chances. What does that say for the rest but we just dwell on 'Those' misses.

You say about beating ourselves and that is correct but can you see the team, which includes Pep, allowing that to happen? Seems to me that some Blues are running scared of the competition when actually they should be relishing the battle.

Takes all sorts though, which I accept, but to say that this team hasn't got the bottle to accept the challenge, after what happened last season, comes across completely alien to me; I just don't get it.

Phil Foden capped a man-of-the-match display against Oxford with his first goal for the Blues.

The Stockport-born teenager admitted his first senior strike was a dream come true – and promised there is much more to come.

“It's hard to put into words - it hasn't fully sunk in,” said Foden.

READ: Oxford 0-3 City: Match report

“I've dreamed of this moment, growing up as a City supporter.

“My first goal is special to me and I'm happy to have helped the team to get the win.

“Mostly, when I was dreaming (about scoring for City), it was in the Premier League but in any competition, it's special to get your first goal.

“I'm happy to get it. I couldn't contain myself - I ran off, mad!

“It's a moment I'll never forget.”

Foden played a big role in the Blues’ first goal and then assisted the second for Riyad Mahrez.

He says he doesn’t mind assisting or scoring – and hopes there are many more occasions when he can do the same.

He said: “I enjoy assisting as well as scoring. It's good to have both in your game.

“I'm learning every day from the likes of David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.

“I need to keep learning and enjoying my football; then we'll see where I go from there.

“It was good to get some minutes.

“I would have liked my goal to have come much earlier (in my senior career) but it's come now and it's a great feeling.

“Hopefully, it's the first of many!”

MoM for the discerning spectator
Stones was alarmingly immobile as defensive mid though.

Well now...Our "Stockport Inestia" is mint and beyond loved seeing him kiss the badge after his first ever goal for the club. I am thoroughly enjoying see him grow into the side and I believe earn more confidence from our manager.

Mahrez also showing us why we signed him and looking more like he did at Leicester and before his ankle injury during preseason.

Bottom line Mahrez he is a clinical finisher - a concern many of us had about this team from our attacking players - who exudes class and is a constant threat to defenders. The ball he received from Foden was sumptuous, but his touch and control to complete the play was exactly why Pep and some of us think he will be of real use to this team.

Sterling also a constant threat when he came on and he could have had two assists, instead of one, for Foden goals from his underrrated ability to spot and make passes that are signs of a quality player.

The opposition was well below our level, but so many changes affected our play. Oddly enough, Brahim I felt was starting to get into the game when he was injured, yet Sterling's addition transformed us into an even greater threat, as he made some terrifying runs.

Muric almost with a howler trying to come out for that one chance he whiffed on too far out, but seemed comfortable enough otherwise playing out the back although he hoofed it a bit more than Eddy.

The Zinch with one fantastic ball I can recall and an overall good performance.

Stones in midfield worked well enough, although I've heard the likes of Ahshan from the 9320 pod feel dubious about his ability to play with his back turned to goal as well as due to his size compared to the likes of Dinho, Kante, etc.. Not going to expect too much but a decent enough option for us.

Vinnie and Nico strong.

Happy days.

That was a stroll in the park and I'm very glad Foden finally got his goal.
That being said, boy was that one boring match.

That is how you deal with a evening that not so long ago we would have been ill this morning over, CLASS players doing what they do and running the game form start to finish. A city Player/fan scoring well it does not get any better than that. 10/10

Everyone in the match day thread was saying Mahrez was frustrating, not passing when he should, having stupid shots. Did he play well or not?

was frustrating the hell out of me.
still holding on to it too long and shooting when passing/recycling possesion would be better, but he is a goal threat no doubt.
I think he could settle in and calm down a little.
Took his goal superbly.

mahrez must have taken nearly 10 shots and only 1 of those (the goal) was on target. maybe 2. guessing that pep had told him to shoot at every opportunity. honestly, i think mahrez is operating at maybe 70% of his ability right now. if he can find top gear he will be amazing to watch in this side.

I agree Mahrez is at 70%. I've got a really good feeling about him though, in that there's a really special talent to be unleashed.

Reckon he will be good this season, spectacular next one.
