He could go to loads of other clubs - the one where he came from being one - and would suit their play.

They couldn’t afford him

He's free in 18 months but given the dippers have spent a quarter of a billion in 2018, then they probably could afford him. I think Sterling is going abroad and who could blame him after the media treatment he gets here.

I thought his deal runs out next summer??
But if not then why is everyone so worried?

Will be a shame if we lose him, and it will hurt us as he's one of the best players in Europe.

I feel he should be on parity with the top boys

It runs out in June 2020. His value will start to drop if we don't sort the deal out soon, hence the concern mate.

If Raheem came to the market how much would we be asking, considering we paid close to 50 mil when he still had 12 months on his contract?

100 million

Let’s hope we don’t get to that point of selling him .

Well over half their spending came from the Coutinho sale though, they can't spend that money again! They roughly spent the Coutinho money plus 90m.

from garth crookes team of the week comments:

Raheem Sterling: I told my son two seasons ago that I thought Raheem Sterling had the ability to compete with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo for the mantle of best player in the world. My son roared with laughter, but he's an Arsenal fan so what does he know! While that mantle looks like it might currently go to Eden Hazard, Sterling is starting to look in that class.

Against Brighton, Sterling was immense, and the speed with which his game has improved under Pep Guardiola is staggering. If Sterling can do for England what Ronaldo has done for Portugal, then hey presto... the mantle is his.

Did you know? Sterling was directly involved in both of Manchester City's goals against Brighton (one goal and one assist).

raheem is WORLD CLASS and at 23 will only get better. if he went to real/barca he'd be banging in 30 a season.

What's that supposed to mean? If he played for a class team rather than the initial CL favourites City? Silly cunt just can't except that City are as god as these teams at least.

Maybe he thinks they'll somehow reduce his miss rate?

i’m saying that if he went to a shit league like la liga, he’d score 10 more goals a season than he would for us.

Not in Italy mate , those teams don’t give you that many chances per game. It’s a much harder league to score in .All our front players should be fucking grateful they have the back up players to give them so many chances .

Has it even been mentioned that money is the sticking point. I doubt he is looking for parity with the top earners, I'm sure he knows he has a place in the squad but its not in the top 2-3 leaders of the squad and never will be.

If he feels settled, he would be mad to move. He still has a lot of facets he can improve on and Pep is best placed to coach him.

He has 'supposed' to have turned down 200k per week.
If true that's disapointing.

I agree, he has improved a lot under Peps guidance, but he is still inconsistent. I can see him and his agent winding his contract down and looking for a move abroad. If we can get a decent fee, personally I would sell.

We put a lot of importance on a player's attitude when we buy them, but some players influenced, by their agent's bad advice, tactics and greed, (like Yaya), can also undermine a team's ethos. If he's not sure he wants to stay, for decent money, we should sell and move on.

For me this has some deja vu all around it. Same happend at Scouse.

The thing is, if you don't have a solid option from Real or Barcelona, why would you want to leave the best team that ever played it the Premier League.

The money he has here are beyond good, if all of us put together all our salaries, we might manage to reach the cash he gets for one month. He is set for life.

Dzeko scored 50 in 130 league games for us. He's scored 55 in 111 league games in Italy.

In the late '90s and early 2000s, Serie A was seeing around 800-850 goals per season. Nowadays it's around 1000-1050 (with every season from 2012/13 onwards except 2015/16 - which had 979 goals - seeing over 1000 scored). Over the same period, the number of goals per season in the Prem has essentially remained consistently between 950 and 1050, with a few outliers. Basically, the number of goals per season in Italy has been steadily on the rise, and has now pretty much caught up with - if not overtaken - the Premier League.

Bollocks mate. He was playing for Brendan fuckin Rogers. Nothing about what happened at Liverpool is the same as what's happening now.

We don't know anything about what's going on in the background.

He left Liverpool for a better team. If he leaves us for Barca or Real then he'll have done the same.
