Some player gave an interview last season (maybe Walker) and he said that at first Pep absolutely bombards you with information but when you have time to take it in, apply it in training over and over again, it eventually comes good in matches and it is then easy and second nature.

In Pep's first season, it took a long time for some of our established premier league players to get a handle on this game plan. Mahrez will be no different.

The more minutes he gets on the pitch, the better he will become

And then we’ll love him.
For now though, he’s a bit, meh!

and the only way he will get to the level required is by playing games and learning from his mistakes.

From his time at Leicester, it's clear he has the qualities. Good touch, can beat players at speed, can score, good decision making, can take games by the scruff of the neck and get the team over the line.

I don't think pep expects any player to come in and hit the ground running but he will be by January

The one thing I’d disagree with there, is the good decision making part.

I think that’s what has really let him down so far.
Shooting when he should pass, missing difficult passes, giving it to the opposition when he should recycle the easy ball and start again.
This could be impatience that he will need to learn, but I sometimes wonder has he the head for our game.

But, give him time. He’s not on his own.
Walker could still do with slowing down and taking a second before deciding on play but he’s much better than he was.
Mendy could do with knuckling down and absorbing how we do things too.

Best example of course is Bernardo.
Look at him now compared to the start of last season. But I always thought Bernardo looked to have all the raw material including a good football brain. I’m not convinced by Mahrez yet, but hoping to be proved wrong.

Great point on Walker, second half he got in a tangle with his feet and we got away with it. The Mahrez hate is IMO uncalled for, but others are entitled to say what ever they want. All be it way to soon for me.

Goes with the territory. If you are paid 200 grand a week then expect to be called a cunt when you do that.

Annoying though because Silva, Sane, Stones, Ferdy, Mendy, Bernardo, Laporte and probably Ederson would have banged that in no problem at all

dave silva is hardly a model pen taker - he has missed badly for us in prior seasons. i also dont see jesus being great at them. just doesn't generate much power or accuracy in his shots. i'd back sane before either one of those 2...or mahrez for that matter.

Took one missed one. Internationals took 2 scored 2. The Silva of 2018 would've scored I fancy. That was 2012

Certainly Jesus and Mahrez would be very low on the list

Surely Alisson is more than familiar with GJ`s penalty taking methods after the world cup.
Maybe this was part of the thinking.
Just a thought.

It would have been nice for Mahrez to get the goal. We would still have to ride it out to the end of the game and who knows what might have happened differently from a spot kick off.

Still we are top of the league and moving on now to knock up points and put pressure on Chelsea, who i feel will be our real threat and not Scousepool.

It would have been fantastic, but it all happened too fast - just brilliant if Pep had said to Ed 'go on son' take the penalty. That would have really blown Klopp's brains out.

Now two weeks of boredom until it all starts again.

Imagine if Ed had taken and missed it, the fallout would've been off the charts.

Imagine if Gundo was on the park and missed it?

Total meltdown.

Me too, but not at Mahrez, but at Pep's decision to make him take it.

Sturridge did it to Elano back in the day. He scored.

Much better signing than Vuoso.

How would we know? We never got to see him.

Plus what games did Matt cost us?

"Not good enough for City, waste of money, utter dross, blah blah blah..."

Read all of that since, and I won't even bother reading the rest of the posts here and everywhere else.

He was ridiculously poor with the pen but it was Pep's fault for not letting Jesus or maybe Bernardo take it. Mahrez didn't even really look like he wanted it.

He almost scored the winner earlier had Allision not made such a good save, and I'm not saying he was great or has been for us, but I am far more patient than it seems quite a few of our frustrated fans are with him.

I thought he was pretty good, particularly in the 2nd half, yesterday and worked hard on both ends of the pitch. He is still a real threat to score and I believe as he gets more comfortable with us some will start to change their tune.

Love Razza, and he did some good things, but he wasn't amazing either.

He won't be in that situation again, so no need to worry (baring a shootout situation).

How many games has he played for City and he's written off already? Luckily we didn't feel the same about Merlin, Yaya etc as we'd be nowhere by now.

Anyway, I still like him, he brings something different.
