‘Worms have played a more important part in the history of the world than most people would at first suppose’.

I like incongruous ideas, and this one is by the great Charles Darwin in ‘The Formation of Vegetable Mould through the Action of Worms’. He goes on to prove that without worms there would be no grass, or cattle or farming as we now know it. Had he been writing today he could have added that there would have been no football pitches and no football.

I think therefore it is reasonable to conclude that worms have made or more valuable contribution to the game that Jose, or indeed Phil Jones.

I can name individual worms that have contributed more than Phil Jones.
