MotM v Lyon

Postby Beefymcfc » Tue Nov 27, 2018 10:18 pm

That was a real test and I thought we battled well for the point. Laporte was excellent regardless and I thought Zinchencko played well. I thought the overload of forward players hampered our game and allowed Lyon chances through the middle but with the change came a better shape.

Could it be a forward player that gets it?

Laporte is really the only player who stood out. Zinchenko also had some nice touches, but didn't get close enough on their 2nd goal

Laporte by a mile. Solid defensively, scored, covered across the pitch at the back. Top performance.

Laporte, but we conceded more goals tonight than we have against the rest of the CL sides. Could it be the tactical set-up, I wonder?

Laporte. Some games just lately there have been three or four serious contenders. Tonight, sadly, there is a real lack of them

But we're through mate and that was the only priority tonight. We weren't allowed to play as we do in the PL and Lyon really do need to be praised, and that's why most are going for Laporte in this thread.

Oh I agree getting through was the first priority, no doubt about it. And Lyon are a decent outfit, especially at home. But I did think it disappointing that our front four were all not up to their usual standards and though Lyon are good they still wouldn’t be top4 in the PL. In recent games we’ve had great performances from a number of our boys which has led us to win games comfortably and tonight too many were off their game

I actually thought that Lyon played out of their skin in both games and really surprised us. They have decent players and put themselves on show I front of their biggest audience. They reminded me of the Arsenal team when they were decent but with tactics that changed when they couldn't pass it into our net.

I take the opposite view that they were very good whilst our tactics of playing 3 at the back, 1 inverted and 1 holding was not the tactics for the night. We played into their hands a little but still created against a packed defence. Reminded me of when we would complain about teams parking the bus and hit us on the break.

Shudder to think about that Sunderland game.

Could it be that it’s our defence that sees us through this year. Laporte and Stones are creating quite a partnership.

He was marking the bloke in the middle, mate.

Laporte for me. Dave Silva was not quite his usual self but still very good again.
Your right leg I like; I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is neither have you.

My eyes may be deceiving me, but that looks like Zinch on the guy who scored the goal.

Oops. Either way, great strike but defending should be better.
