Fern's Replacement

Postby Mase » Wed Dec 26, 2018 6:45 pm

Who would you like to see come in and replace Fern over the next season or two?

It's obvious that is a main priority, and I wonder if Pep didn't have any alternatives to Jorginho because he's waiting for Douglas Luiz to get a work permit (anyone know what's happening there?) and he wants to use him there.

I like the guy from PSG, can't remember his name.

Watched him a lot this season, since he was linked with us because his contract will expire.
He is really poor, watched him with Scouse on Klanfield, his performance was super bad. His passing is terrible, however he is really strong.
I would avoid him at any cost.

Had Mourinho still been at the rags I’d have made a cheeky bid for Pogba.

Veratti would be my first choice, probably unrealistic to believe we could prise him away from PSG.

Allan from Napoli looks made for this side but that would mean dealing with DeLaurentis again, so probably unrealistic too.

Neves from Wolves would be worth considering.

The problem is his replacement should already be here, we've fucked up.

We should consider investing on a young one with bags of potential rather than one in their late 20s and develop him. We can get one or two seasons out of Fern, bringing in a young prodigy can be guided by Fern before taking off the reins. Seeing Ferns role is so pivotal to our set up, we have to get it right, I dont think there is a quick fix to this. There are few young potentials we're eyeing, we'll see how'll they come through before we bid in the summer.

I like Jack Grealish, not as a replacement, which is for me almost impossible. Fern is a master craftsman whi plays to the red line every game. Grealish is heading to be another one like Dele Ali, tons to work with, has that edge needed.

Hes irreplaceable.....the only one in his position that puts in a tactical foul at precisely the right time and breaks up play.

Id go as far as saying , hes the most important player we have in the side.
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

Apart from Sterling or Kompany, I'd agree

Have to agree with Carl on this. We've got plenty of cover at CB and on the wings. No one else can do what Fern does. Only other player as important to our setup is big Dave. We've missed both of these players massively in the last few games.

We have over relied on ferna way too much and now were paying the price. We haven't managed him properly. It has been poor management.

To be fair, was Jorginho not supposed to be his replacement? By all accounts had given his word he would sign and it was a done deal. He then reneged on the deal leaving us in the lurch. Lessons to be learned about getting the deals done early clearly, but big transfers can be complex affairs so it's not always black and white.

I also think we thought Luiz(?) was earmarked as Ferns deputy and that we would get a work permit. Again that didn't work out. But I can't believe the management simply have ignored it

From watching Jorginho at Chelsea I don't see what he brings that Gundogan doesn't. I agree with Sheblue that he's been mismanaged, Gundogan should've started a couple more in the league and there's also been a few games that were wrapped up but Fern played out the whole 90, why??!!

There's been a fair few calling for Foden to get Gundogan's minutes but I think that's misplaced, they should be calling for Gundogan to get more of Fern's minutes opening up space for Foden to be rotated in more.

Before anyone says that Gundo is not an adequate alternative to Fern, I'm not suggesting he is but surely he can be used to spare the latter's legs on occasion. Playing Fernandinho until he broke was a bit dumb tbf.

We are not going to ever get another Ferna, same with Sergio, what we have to find is another way. We have needed this for a few years at least. Jan 3 we need the solution to the Scousers.

Maybe we don't replace Fern. Maybe we adapt how we play. We wondered who would replace Yaya. We didn't replace him like for like. We adapted. Systems evolve and so do tactics and formations.

We will find a way
