When I were a lad

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

When I were a lad

Postby Kladze » Wed Apr 17, 2019 10:08 pm

I don't post here as often as I used to (or should) because I'm too busy and can't be arsed most of the time.
Soz.

But there's some stuff I need to get off my chest because I'M F*CKING FUMING.

First of all, I have always said that introducing video replays to make decisions in a live and ongoing game is an absolutely terrible idea. I'm not even 100% convinced that it's a good idea for goal line decisions if I'm honest.

So, why do I say that?
For one thing, refereeing decisions are a part of the game - or should be.

Another reason is this: When I were a lad one of the joys of the game was to be had when leaving the stadium and MOANING YOUR F*CKING HEAD OFF about a (perceived) bad decision.
It was all a part of what brought passion into the game.

Now, we have what amounts to artificial intelligence changing the on field decisions. Great moments of joy - or of disaster - are put on ice as a f*cking camera puts forth an opinion.

Whatever happened to "The referee's decision is final"?

Come to that, what is the actual point of having a referee or linesmen nowadays?

Should Spurs winning goal have stood?
Yes, if I'd been the ref and seen it with my naked eye I would have ruled that the ball hit Llorente's hand which was in a perfectly 'natural' position. It was ball to hand to hip to goal and perfectly legal in my opinion.

Should Stirling's injury time 'winner' have stood?
Yes. The linesman didn't see the offside so IT BECAME ONSIDE.

So:

F*CK VAR. F*CK WHOEVER CAME UP WITH THE IDEA RIGHT UP THE RECT*M.

Rant over.

One more thing:

Did City deserve to win and go into the semis?
No.
But neither did Spurs.

Take the excitement of the flurry of goals away and neither team did because both teams played like a bunch of amateurs. l
