I thought he was a true leader he is intelligent articulate and has real empathy for less fortunate people through his homeless work. I can’t think of a better captain and leader he is a top man. I hope he does well at Anderlecht who knows he might be a future City manager.
I will miss him the heartbeat of our club.

I don't think we have seen the last of Vinny.
I could imagine any of our youngsters sent there would be in good hands if sent on loan there.

Be nice to have an arrangement with someone who knows all the City culture, and a good standard

Doubt we'll be seeing him back at City any time soon as I actually think he'll do a great job over there.

All the best.

Not sure I agree with retiring his shirt. The number 4 shirt should be used as an inspiration and an aspiration for many generations to come. That we have set a benchmark and an example for those wearing it.
Vinny should be remembered and when we see the number 4 shirt in future, it should have the same regard as 8 does for King Colin, or 7 for buzzer, and now Sterling is aptly wearing Buzzer's old number.
Keep the number 4 alive, most will never reach Vinny's level, if any, but they can all try t heir damndest

Fair point. Not sure where I stand on shirt retiring. Seems a bit of an American thing, but if anyone deserves it, it's Vinny

That video is great.

Winning the treble and THAT goal. Talk about the very model of a fitting end.

Class, through and through, the epitome of our City. Not in a million years would the scum or dippers produce such a well respected and humble professional.

No way do you retire the shirt, let someone else live up to it. The Foe situation was however both tragic and the right thing to do.

That's cos they haven't found a player good enough for the number.

nottsblue wrote:You know the measure of the man when fans of all teams, rags and dippers included, who almost to a man, sing his praises and say they wish they had had him at their team. John Terry and Roy Keane were revered at their respective clubs but not by football fans across the country.

Kompany has bucked that in some style. His testimonial in September will be a spectacular occasion

Interesting bit is many of our players fall into the highly respected and liked category.

I know Sergio didn't win so many awards, and like Silva, because they didn't speak much to the media in English, I think were given less attention, but I know fans of other clubs who do love some of our players. In that tradition, and due to Pep and the club's "holistic" idea for development, the players brought in need to be of a certain character and it makes the team enjoyable in a different way - even more so to me, at least - even as much as I always loved the De Jong's, Mancini's and Tevez's.

With Vinny, of course, it's beyond that because of his character and massive personality that stands out and has spoken out before. It's interesting to wonder, not taking anything away from Raz who now gets deserved credit for his speaking out on racism, also comes from influence in the dressing room. Yaya, even with his missteps, could also be seen as an influence.

Regardless, beyond sad about this news, but will never forget all he's done for the club. It's a great opportunity for him, and there's little doubt in my mind he will be back again.

Here's to you Vincent Kompany!!!!
