The View from Deepdale

My brother in law has been at season ticket holder at PNE for years, so I always keep an eye on them, and I would like to see them in the Prem. It looks like the home fans are a little bit misguided though, in that they think we have a B team. We know it doesn’t work like that, and even if it did Pep takes these competitions seriously. The only question then, is will Foden get a run out?

Although this is a great opportunity for some to be playing against a class side I would air in the side of caution. The league is the most important thing for us this season. If would be foolish to risk unnecessary injury in a match we are likely to lose. Who knows we may be playing them for real next season as well as trips to Old Trafford, Anfield, Stamford Bridge etc.

Hope we stick with a mainly second stream squad and have as many key players fit as possible for a far more important match v Bristol City.

We can’t do a Prem FA cup double, but we could do a Championship League Cup double, if Citeh are prepared to take their eye off the ball in this competition we should endeavour to take advantage.

I think we will play our strongest 11

And to further confuse the issue City seem to have a central defender crisis now....we know all about that one.

Start with our best 11 then when we’re 3-0 up take a couple of key players off to rest them for the weekend. Simple.

Don’t think our more technical players will have much impact, even against City’s 2nd team. I’d rather play a physical side that can press and counter with pace.

I'm just looking forward to the game and seeing a full Deepdale.. Not expecting to win... Come on be realistic.. Lets just enjoy the occasion and hope it gets repeated in the league next season!!

Big question though - looking at the forecast…Will City be up for it on a wet Tuesday night at Deepdale?

Im going to Deepdale tomorrow night its only down the road from me and couldn't believe 8000 points could get an away ticket happy fucking days usually never goes lower than 20,000 haha. Bill Shankly kop though what the fuck is all that about ffs ????

I remember being taken by my Dad to see the Spurs of Jimmy Greaves being beat by PNE in the Cup. Soft spot for them.

A colleague I used to work with was engaged to Mark Rankine, who was PNE captain at the time. She got me a ticket in the stand where players families and other guests watch.

Felt sad watching the away end celebrate wildly when City scored - didn't feel right not being among them. Then, PNE scored two, including John Macken's stunner from right near the half way line. I had to pretend to celebrate, hugging strangers, while Rankine's fiance and her mate pissed themselves laughing.

After the game, Mark bought me a pint in the players bar, nice bloke. I felt a bit awkward chatting to the caotain of the club who had beaten my beloved Blues as they were trying to get back in the Omoremier league. Anyway, as we were all chatting, I noticed a small group of Blues stood between the bar and the door. In walks Jon Macken, they all dive on him, throwing punches and shouting madly. It all hapenned in an instant, Mark and I put our pints down (I don't know what I thought I was going to do). As we got to our feet, the mob of Blues got off Macken, they were all giving him hugs galore - it was Macken's dad and his mates.

Little did they know that the goal they saw was probably the goal that convinced Keegan to sign Macken (I think Keegan described Macken as "the next Beckham").
