Favourite City Season

Postby Mase » Thu Nov 28, 2019 9:43 am

I was just educating someone on Ali B and Berkovic playing together and it reminded me how enjoyable that first season under Keegan was.

I don't know whether it's because we were still at Maine Road and the feel was completely different - getting to the wall at the back of the Kippax and seeing what number they wanted you to rip out of your season ticket book, going down at half time to have a kick-about, seeing the same faces every week.

That season was brilliant for me. I was 15/16 years old, hasn't seen any massively attractive football being played by City since I'd started watching. Keegan came in and played with attacking wing-backs, two playmakers with Ali B and Berkovic, Goater was on fire, Huckerby was class, Dunnie was smashing the pints and coming in to training.
I was buzzing to go to every match. We weren't getting screwed over by refs or VAR. Tiatto was smashing heads in.

I feel sorry for kids that will grow up never experiencing Maine Road.

I know we've won everything domestically in the last few years, and it's been a great journey, but for me that season under Keegan is still my favourite.

What's your favourite season you've seen?

Getting promoted with Keegan at the helm probably gave me (Amazingly ) more pleasure over a season than anything I have seen since.

True story.

Yeah agreed. There was no expectation. We were a yo-yo club. I'd personally never seen attractive football (Horton was okay with Summerbee and Beagrie but not on the same level as Keegan). Smashing teams by 4 or 5 with all different goalscorers. It was great. Like I say, I don't know whether being at Maine Road added to that.

I was away in Carlisle for most of the season that we won promotion and came back the day of the following Prem season on the day of the last Maine road season so I missed a fair few of the away days but the Keegan promotion season was good watch
.

Personally, the first premier league winning season under Bob was my favourite. Smashing the red shit at the swamp
Along with other great away trips at QPR, Norwich & Newcastle. YAYA's second curling in and City going mental up in the gods was probably better than actually beating QPR in the next game for me

Last season easy choice for me. The run at the end Vinnie's goal,

That's my least enjoyable. Pure poison all season and hated watching those last 10 matches with teams whacking 12 men behind the ball and hoping.

Great at the end when it was all over, but the actual season was a horrible experience.

The end of last season was epic but the rest of it was mentally exhausting and horribly toxic due to the fact we just had to put those disgusting bin dipping thieving thick as fuck ignorant scouse bastards in their place . 2011/12 was sweet as fuck and absolute dream made in heaven the absolute real deal overhauling the rags and that whiskey nosed twat , pure heaven and totally defining . Also really enjoyed our all time record breaking season 2017/18 when we won the league at Christmas :D :D so relaxed that season and the 15 game run in with the PL wrapped up was awesome . Going right back to the Joe Royle / Kevin Keegan years they were totally different but showed what true city fans are all about , proper fans with grit and a sense of humour , too many hangers on and day trippers these days but that's what success brings we have to deal with it but the good thing I suppose is that most of those hangers on and day trippers accept the situation aswell and respect City,s proper fans and Manchester in general . Anyway lost track a bit there reminiscing about the old days ...................

deffo 2011/12 8-) :D
Not really here

Mine too. Loved that we won the league and how we did it, but it was pure poison and nerve wracking.

As a foreign City fan, also have a special moment from Keegan's season back in the Premier League, with Huckerby, Wanchope, Ali B or Anelka. I think Maine Road also played a big part, never felt the same on Eastlands and overall felt the pressure on the opponents was lacking like it was on the old stadium.

I think we are spoiled a bit now, to be honest, but I also think that our obstacles are different

I moaned about Keegan a lot when we were promoted.
But even I have to agree that the post Royle season in division 1 was an absolute pleasure

4:1 Vs Burnley, Psychos missed penalty even when Beasant agreed which way to dive, every away game watched inbound on dodgy OnDigital boxes, and this is still one of my favourite ever goals, Bernabia back heel to Goater... https://youtu.be/7p909bAeYAk

A sublime season.

Never took to Anelka, or Keegan. Both were passing through. Sorry to offend.

Easy one for me, although in fairness it was only half a season.
I'm talking about the first half of the season under Sven, it was just magical.
Maybe it was just a reaction from sitting through Psycho's last stand, but I loved it.
Elano, Ireland, Jonno and all.
And the sun always seemed to be shining.

They did, no doubt, but Anelka had a fantastic season.
I really was blown away when I read we signed him

Signing him and later Robinho were really shocks for me

Doesnt get much better than last season does it really. Unprecedented domestic treble winners winning one of the best title races for years. Though last 14 wins were the stuff of legend

But always will have a soft spot for 90/91 as well. Finishing above the rags for the first time in years was sweet. Played some decent stuff as well

You literally took the words out of my mouth. Loved that season! It was my first trip to Manchester as well.

I also really enjoyed the 2010/2011 season as well, with the FA Cup win as the pinnacle. Still can't believe I managed to get a ticket for that one (I flew over to London just for the atmosphere, and found out on the train from Stansted that I had a ticket – massive thanks Spiv!).

The first title can’t be topped. Beating scum home and away for what may have been the first time in my life. The 6-1. Aguero’s debut. Silva and yaya with young legs. Tevez return match at Norwich. So many highlights and then top it all off with 93:20, Bacons face and tevez holding up that sign on the parade.
Tracking back is overrated.

Started going in 69/70 aged 8. Had my 1st Wembley trip that year for the League Cup Final against West Brom. Went to every home tie in the European Cup Winners Cup, My dad went to the final in Vienna, wouldn't take me but promised i could stay up to watch it on telly and then they didn't show it as the Chelsea/ Leeds FA Cup Final replay was on instead. Bastards.
Some good years then, 71/72 when we should have won the league but signing Rodney Marsh slowed us down, 75/76 with the King of all Geordies overhead at Wembley. The horrendous return of Big Malc and then John Bond giving us some great times with Gerry Gow and Tommy Hutch.

I too loved the Keegan era or at least the start of it. My youngest daughter was in Berkovic's sons class at school and i had many chats with him. He didn't like playing with Anelka as Anelka wanted the ball to feet and Eyal liked playing the little through balls. Anelka would stand there with hands on hips not moving for it.He loved The Goat, they were very close off the pitch as well. He fell out big time with Keegan by demanding a new contract when Benarbia retired. Keegan refused, Berkovic apologised but Keegan once he fell out with someone - that was it and he sold him to Portsmouth where he made his debut against us and they battered us i think.

Been spoilt the last couple of years.Loved the 100 point season and the end result of the treble but as a happily married dad of 4, as i pointed out on the speech for my daughters wedding the best day of my life will always be 13th May 2012.
