Memory Lane

This weekend on tv there has been some nostalgia having had a really bad week it made me think of happy times as a city fan
Starting with my first memory and after it goes like this -
Obviously my first game City v Bury Colin Bell scored for Bury Harry Dowd our goalkeeper had injured his hand, no subs then, was put on wing and scored equaliser, I should have known then the journey I had set on.
My next memory was in the promotion season of 65, a freezing day in January it was 0-0 but a preston winger called Ernie Hannigan run rings round our defenders that day, I never understood how this guy never made the big time.
Next was Mike Doyle scoring a fantastic header against Huddersfield who were a top team in division two at the time.
Fast forward to the dancing on ice 4-1 against Spurs. I could go on but one other game sticks in my mind, it was against Schalke a German team, we had lost the away game, but won our home game 5-1 we went on to win the cup winners cup that year, any way those are my memories of course there are more, wonder what other City fans think and have more to share?

Midweek away match at Molyneux Wolves mid 80s . Early dart from work catch match special train Piccadilly to Wolverhampton. City were dire and lost 2 nil I think , made way back to Wolverhampton train station and literally hundreds of Wolves fans were waiting for us , the group of city fans I was with were totally out numbered prob about 25 of us ran for our lives . Somehow we ran the right way and ended up at Wolverhampton train station only to be cornered . We stood our ground and fought for our lives literally . Scrambled our way into the station and and got on the return special train just in time as it was told to leave early because of all the trouble . Train got 100 yards out of the station and was bricked to fuck by wolves fans , nearly every window smashed and one lad got a brick in the face and was in a bad way . Train carried on to Manchester without stopping , where police and medics were waiting for us . I walked straight out of Piccadilly station taxi home went work next morning oh those days ! West Ham away early 80,s- got a real good hiding due to the police ignoring my calls to get into the train station with all the city fans and then they closed those big wooden doors (Or they just stopped anyone getting through...cannot remember)

My error was going for a drink with some West Ham mates after the game and then trying to get into the walking City fans who were being escorted by the police to the train station...my accent was heard by some WH thugs and even though the Police knew I was going to get battered they ignored my pleas to go with the City crowd.

I only remember smacking one of them and it was a beauty...then it was a case of curl up on the floor as I was pummeled - got on the train eventually and there were fucking Chelsea fans (I think ) on there who bought me some beers due to my battle scars and here was me thinking Im in for another hiding !!

I think I hate the police more than the thugs that battered me - total cunts.

Coventry away was funny due to the City fan who climbed that wall at the away end and started taking the piss with the police who wanted him to jump down and he was taunting them......you had to be there to understand how funny it was....good old days those were!

Funny place west ham went for the first time on a tuesday night early 80s when they were going for the league - hardly any city there and west ham all around the escort moody as fuck. Then they were at us again on that day we went down until something changed their minds and they decided we were mates and clapped us back to the tube. New ground not a patch on the boleyn

After reading your account I did smirk, sorry Carl.... Been to WHUFC with the father in Law, many times, they hate Spurs. no doubt the away ground that can turn out if you visit on a bad day. Glad your all ok though mate.

I remember being in Maine road as a kid, but who we played and what the score was no clue. The smell, the feel, the sheer humanity is what stayed in the memory.

As for good memories there’s too many to name but I love the ones nobody else seems to care about some times.

One of my fondest wasn’t a game, it was getting in trouble at work for doing zero work the morning of the takeover as I was hitting refresh all morning (Brisbane time) trying to see who we were signing.
