Has sadly died aged 85. Always liked him and a great manager for Ireland. Loved his no nonsense approach and good value as a pundit as well.

RIP

RIP.

He genuine looked like a nice guy. Always valued his nice words about the WC90 game when Ireland went to the quarter finals instead of Romania.
He really did some magic stuff with that national team.

Always had a soft spot for that great Leeds team of the late 60s/early 70s. Back when football was a proper game. This is a nice tribute from the Leeds twitter page

His Ireland teams were what got me into football properly, the buzz around that Euro '88 side was awe inspiring for a 9 year old me.

RIP Big Jack

A great player who played for a really great team at the time , stuck to his principles and seemed like a really nice down to earth man.

RIP Jack.

I remember going to Leeds away late sixties, cup match I think, we were in an open end behind the goal, Leeds got a corner and big Jack came up for it, all the City fans started chanting “big daft Jack” he was pissing himself laughing.
RIP Jack

What a character and absolute legend of a man. You can’t really top a World Cup win but what he did with Ireland was special.

He’ll obviously be missed and just hope he made it up with his brother before he passed.
