The Community Shield

There is a chance we might be involved with this, word round the candles is Klopp does not want to play in it, such a coward, worried about fixture congestion before season starts.
If we do get to CL final, we would have a weeks less preparation foe new season, so question is should we sack it or go for it if Klopp drops out ?

I'd say go for it! One week before the season starts proper, it'd be a better option than some no-point friendly.

Yes, after the break in March I don't think e need to worry about player burn out at this stage, indeed, its probably better to keep sharp by playing rather than have a couple of weeks off and have to start again.

Play for me as well. Another Wembley game is never a bad thing

Cant see the dippers not wanting to play though to be honest. It's an almost certain trophy

What? Surely you can’t choose to be part of the community cup or not?

The Fa would want us to save the fixture if Liverpool did drop out. Fuck them. We should pass on it.

It's an invitational. We won it in the early '70s without having won anything the preceding season.

I think if we get through against Madrid, there'll be no way the FA can think about including us, because we'll definitely be involved in the CL until 15 August at the earliest, and I wouldn't want us to go straight from that to the Community Shield before the league kicks off if we make it to the final.

No way if we get past Madrid. The break is already too short we dont need this match

Surely this is purely academic anyway?

The whole point of this Cup is its charitable benefit i.e. gate receipts go to charity.

No gate (supporter's) must mean next to no revenue.

Fairly sure there cannot be much TV money in this cup?

No cup in an empty stadium, LiVARpool should hand over their league prize money to make things right.

Clubs also get an 'appearance fee' (same amount whether they win or lose) in the region of €650K each. If you lose the Charity Shield, you get 6 times more money than winning the League Cup. However, you also get 45% of the gate money in the LC, but nothing from the CS.

Teams have chosen to donate their appearance fees to charities in the past, but if/when we play I think we shouldn't, and instead the Sheikh make a donation-in-kind to the equivalent amount (or even double), accompanied by a media campaign highlighting that we can't donate the proceeds directly to charity, as this would make it slightly more difficult to conform to FFP regulations.
