Pep - time to say goodbye?

He’s not committed to a new contract
We’ve limped in with the league cup to show for our efforts
Finished a mile behind Liverpool
Weird defensive champs league setup for a team we are a lot better than them - still lose by 2 goals

I think we need to think about how we go into next season, with pep due to leave I can see us dipping further - should we cut ties now?

For us to win UCL? Yes.
For us to win the League? No.

Not sure I agree - we still seem miles behind Liverpool even without var - tonight wouldn’t have happened to them

We can’t go in to next season without him giving us a decision on what he wants to do. We’ll win absolutely nothing with it hanging over us. He needs to say in the next few weeks what he wants to do.

I think we will win the league next year, but UCL wise, no chance.
I said it in the game thread, you cannot progress when you don't accept your mistakes and try to solve them.

I hate with all my heart that fucker Klopp, what did he do after he lost the final vs Madrid because of Karius? Sold him and bought a top gk and won UCL. What happened after he lost the title last season? Regrouped and bought only what he needed and won the league far.

He doesn't do that.

I think it's time for either Don Allegri or Pooch.

Disgraceful but unsurprising to me.

I feel sick, but I also know going into this game the result we saw was what I was worried most about.

Why do we keep conceding comic level goals off the counter?

Why do class attacking players suddenly make, strange, poor decisions or miss the most clear cut chances?

It stems from the lack of trust, IMHO, players have in the defence that Pep models with his constant tinkering to prevent this exact problem.

Pep is trying to deal with the fact that our defenders are absolutely awful and it affects the entire team on the pitch.

Liverpool can play how they want because they have faith in their defence.

You remember before Van Dijk and Allison how poor they were in that regard?

Laporte has now had his 2 worst games in big CL games, however, his partner is never the same or his been injured. Ederson was terrible as well today.

Pep plays different lineups and formations that must confuse and make it challenging for players, especially defenders.

HOWEVER, again, that is because he has good reason to not trust most defenders to come out consistently at all.

Some players we have bought have failed us, and we failed finding a CB last summer after Kompany left.

Garcia COULD have had more time earlier, but no way Pep would drop Stones and Nico that fast after what they had done.

Problem was NEITHER of them got back to form and we then switched Fernandinho to CB after Laporte went out.

That's the story.

Is Kouliabaly the answer? Our Van Dyke?

Laporte was to be that, but we need another, clearly, as since Dinho nor Gundo is Dinho at the no. 6 that also increased the deficiencies.

Ake will help as well.

I never felt we'd win it this season because of this weakness that infected the rest of our play against good counter attacking sides.

Next year will be a better chance.

Exactly - we’ve got a bit of a golden generation going into next season - we need commitment from pep or we will waste Sergio, Fernandinhos last season here

He has made an horrendous amount of silly mistakes this season.
Crazy head scratching team selections, tactics and substitutions.
It's been a shit season for him.
Hard to see it changing.

Because they would never change their system, or players. There’s also the rather large issue of officiating.

However, we’ve got a worldly squad of players who could do things without a manager/coach. I hear Sam Allardyce is on the take.

Was brought in to win the CL

He has consistently under performed in Europe but at the same time we have won virtually every trophy going for the last 3 years. Is domestic success enough? For me it is but I’m sure the owners and people involved with the club have their own thoughts

I have said goodbye to last season as it was shit ! So many inconsistent performances and selections. Make no mistake the bin dippers or the rags would have had VAR work in their favour last night . They game is corrupt without doubt .

The dippers wouldn’t have lost like we did VAR or no VAR - there is an issue with VAR but we can’t always use that as an excuse - there was issues all over the pitch and it was down to pep last night

Exactly. People have said this player made a mistake or that player messed up - they’re playing a system we’ve played 2-3 times this season. It’s not our usual system so expect some fuck ups from players. They were probably as confused as we were!

What happened last night was the equivalent of if Klopp completely changed the formation last season in the final against Spurs because he knew Spurs would counter attack. It just wouldn’t happen. And the fact it took 56 minutes to change it - even after we could all see that it wasn’t working after 20 minutes, is unforgivable.

If it’s time to say good bye to Pep surely time to say good bye to Txixi with him? His record in recruiting defenders is shite. The money he has been given to have us in a position where Kompany not replaced and no pace in the central defence and so easy to play a long ball over the top and we get done time and again just to someone straight run behind.

Maybe it’s happened already behind the scenes and Pep has told them If he is staying or going but to be getting into a position of one year left on contract and be saying we will see at the end if we extend isn’t good but I can’t think of any manager out there now who I would be excited about replacing him with.
