Premier League Changes | Biggest Shake-Up in a Generation

Just seen something on Sky News ticker about ‘Project Big Picture’ being run by the Rags and Dippers which is said to be the change to the PL in a generation. Doesn’t say what it is but if it’s about them it will be all about them making more money and the rest losing out.

Telegraph are the ones breaking the story, saying it's been drafted by Fenway sports and have the backing of manure and reckon they have backing of 72 other teams to push it through!!!!!

The plans include:

£250 million immediately to the EFL to compensate its clubs for lost matchday revenue, deducted from future television revenue earnings and financed by a loan taken out by the Premier League.
Special status for the nine longest serving clubs – and the vote of only six of those “long-term shareholders” required to make major changes, including amending rules and regulations, agreeing contracts, removal of the chief executive, and a wide-ranging veto including on club ownership.
Premier League to go to 18 clubs from 20.
£100 million one-off gift to the FA to cover its coronavirus losses, the non-league game, the women’s game, the grassroots.
8.5 per cent of annual net Premier League revenue to go on operating costs and “good causes” including the FA.

From the remainder, 25 per cent of all combined Premier League and Football League revenues to go to the EFL clubs.
Six per cent of Premier League gross revenues to pay for stadium improvements across the top four divisions, calculated at £100 per seat.
New rules for the distribution of Premier League television income, overseas and domestic, including proposals that base one portion on performance over three years in the league.
The abolition of the League Cup and the Community Shield.
24 clubs each in the Championship, League One and League Two reducing the professional game overall from 92 clubs to 90.


A women’s professional league independent of the Premier League or the FA.
Two sides automatically relegated from the Premier League every season and the top two Championship teams promoted. The 16th place Premier League club in a play-off tournament with the Championship’s third, fourth and fifth placed teams.
Financial fair play regulations in line with Uefa, and full access for Premier League executive to club accounts.
A fan charter including capping of away tickets at £20, away travel subsidised, a focus on a return to safe standing, a minimum away allocation of eight per cent capacity.

Later Premier League start in August to give greater scope for pre-season friendlies, and requirement for all clubs to compete once every five years in a summer Premier League tournament.
Huge changes to loan system allowing clubs to have 15 players out on loan domestically at any one time and up to four at a single club in England.

Just had a read of the proposed changes and it looks like it was devised by Rick Parry in conjunction with the American owners of certain clubs and although there is some very good things in there it does seem that they’re there to bribe others into taking on other rules that will basically give the American controlled clubs the keys to the PL.

A lot of sensible reform in there, but offset by the bits that consolidate the hold of the leading clubs (which now includes us it seems):

Just read a statement by the PL which is against some of the proposed changes and basically hitting out at Parry for releasing and endorsing them.

Seems that it’s come out without being sanctioned by the PL which means that it’s most probably being forced by those mentioned in the main headline, ie. the American owners.

I have a big issue with this. It’s well documented that the swamp is in need of a major overhaul. This will allow them to do so and make the other clubs pay for it.

Really hope this doesn’t see the light of day. It is designed purely for the benefit of a few clubs, at the expense of all the others and it’s being masqueraded as somehow being beneficial to the whole football pyramid. Two less clubs in the PL means LESS opportunity for Championship club to improve. The logic is not dissimilar to FFP.

A huge number of fans will become disenchanted with football after this and will simply give it up and walk away. A monumental disaster waiting to happen IMO

There is actually some not bad ideas hidden amongst them but on the whole it is abhorrent as a plan

I like the idea of a playoff between championship teams and PL teams (assume for promotion/relegation) in theory but the plan to reduce teams and inject more money makes this a terrible idea

Long said premier league teams should not participate in the league cup and my tune won’t change coz we’ve won a few on the bounce

And in addition, anything proposal which Rick Parry has either introduced or backed, should be taken with a pinch of salt and dismissed. He is one of the the very people who have agendas that football should root out and get rid of rather than have him as an endorsement

It would be interesting to see how this plan compares money-wise, especially for the lower league clubs, to what is in place at the moment before passing judgement. Looks to me like a power grab by the yank owned clubs to line their pockets some more. Also appears they've now accepted we ain't going away any time soon so have included us......wouldn't surprise me, however, if the 'oppose owners' clause was subtly changed to allow current incumbents to be opposed. It should be remembered that FFP originally had a debt limit that got removed by the elite clubs!
