Your top 10 City games

For me it has to be:

1. vs. Gilligham - because that day I started loving this club
2. vs QPR because things like that happen one in a lifetime
3. 6-1 vs Filth - because of how great we were that day

Same, but different:

1. vs. Gillingham - because it was just so fucking wonderful to be part of - but also, because my understanding is that if we did not get promoted we might not have been able to justify the move to Eastlands - and the rest may not have happened
2. vs QPR - because things like that happen one in a lifetime - was stood next to the same mate that I was at the Gillingham with and I remember saying to him with a few mins to go - "Do you think that it could be another Gillingham"?
Joint 3. 1-4 vs Blackburn The tension after going behind was just 'typical CITY' - but then we turned it around and being part of that conga was so special
Joint 3. 1-6 vs Filth - it was just so good to stuff them like that whilst baconface was still the manager

Good thread PP

1. City vs Gillingham (98/99)

Image

Still to this day my favourite ever City match. No matter how many trophies we win nothing will top this day. As a kid, never seeing my team lift a trophy, and then we went to Wembley and I got to see Andy Morrison lifting it high. Amazing day. I remember before the match my mum and dad bought me the blue and white jester hat that everyone had. The rollercoaster of a ride that was that game. My mum, even in the 90th minute, saying “We’re still going to win this!” while people around us were leaving the ground. Nicky Weaver! What a legend!! I could finally go in to school and shout about us winning something.

2. City vs Blackburn Rovers (99/00)

Image

The season after Gillingham, we needed a win on the final day to get automatic promotion (I think Ipswich or Charlton could finish above us in second if we didn’t win). Sitting crying at half-time because we were 1-0 down and I thought “typical City”. Then second half was one of the best performances I’ve seen from a City team. 4 goals. Pure joy! Another rollercoaster game. Asking my mum and dad if we could go on the pitch at the end of the match. Running on there and thinking I was a footballer. Brilliant day.

3. City vs Stoke (FA Cup final 2011)

Image

After accepting I’ll never see my club win a “major” trophy this day was pure joy. Never thinking I’d see it. Thinking we’d somehow mess it up as usual. Hugging my brother at full-time crying in the stands. I had to start drinking from about 10am because I was so nervous that day. Ended up getting a hangover on the coach back from Wembley and puking everywhere. Just couldn’t believe I’d seen my club win something big, and the way we did it beating the rags in the semi as well.

Honourable mentions:

City vs Southampton (2002/2003)

Image

Last game at Maine Road and I feel honoured that I was there. Absolute party atmosphere. Even though we lost I loved the day. People were ripping signs off the stands. Last time seeing Foe play live. Badly Drawn Boy playing on the pitch afterwards.

I really miss Maine Road. A proper football ground.

City vs Liverpool (94/95)

Image

My memory is really crap, but I still remember the first match my dad ever took me too. First time to Maine Road - I remember the smell of the food stalls outside the ground, being attracted to the blue coloured kit everyone was wearing and thinking straight away ‘I’ll ask for that for Christmas’. Just walking around the stadium and instantly falling in love. Seeing people singing together. Holding my dads hand as we walked in to the main stand and seeing the pitch for the first time. We beat Liverpool 2-1 and I remember walking back to the car that day and saying to my dad “We beat Liverpool dad!!” and before that day I wasn’t a City fan. I left Maine Road as a die hard blue though.

City vs the rags (2002/2003)

Image

Last derby at Maine Road and the first time I’d ever seen us beat them. I could finally go in to school and give the red bastards shit on Monday! I remember everyone was celebrating outside the ground. It was beautiful.

1 City v Rags at OT 6-1
2 City v QPR iconic heart stopper every emotion possible and the most pissed I have ever been after a match .
3 City v Dippers January 2018 2-1 pure intense football and by far the best ever atmosphere the Etihad has ever witnessed, absolutely insane noise levels , truly incredible night and performance.

Gillingham ? Not for me ! That era was utterly disgusting to be a city fan we should never ever have fallen to those levels . Massive respect to the people who changed that ,Joe Royle all the players and staff . It certainly taught us all a lesson and set the foundations for what we enjoy in this era , well most of us !

It was best games not era. There won’t be a more iconic or important game than that Gillingham one in our lifetime. We wouldn’t be where we are if it wasn’t for that day.

1 May 13th 2012. QPR - quite simply the best day of my life. Nothing else comes close.

2 FA Cup Semi v the rags. The best of all my trips to Wembley, even better than the final for me. Atmosphere inside, outside from all Blues was fantastic.

3 rags at home 2012, 3rd last game of the season. Captain Fantastics header putting us top of the league. Atmosphere again fantastic.

10-1
5-1
Because I was there in the Kippax. Both of them insane games.
1-6 Because I was on the other side of the planet , watched it on the internet, and simply couldn't believe it was true. The other night , while our best performance/result since we belted them (after Bernie finished his cuppa) a couple of months back , was credible, and mildly dissapointing because we could have had a couple more. That's how far we have come. Thankyou Sheikh Mansour, Bob, Manuel and Pep . . .

I want to add on my list Wolves - City, 2002.
Because of my own stupidity and lack of information at that time, I've wrongly understood that game was a must win game.
Win or we will not promote back in the Premier League. (Had no knowledge we were so far up front).

I was refreshing the teletex on the the TV all day long to see if the result was there.

Should be a top 10. The OP's three have got to be there, but one of my personal top 3 is the away cup game at Villa, where I was right behind the goal when Micah headed that last minute goal.
Amazing madness ensued.

That was great, I was behind the goal as well but just like the Tottenham 4-3 it was tainted for me by the fact we went out in the next round and the round after the Tottenham one made even worse the fact it was the rags.

The semi against the rags would have meant nowhere near as much if we'd lost to Stoke in the final.

TBF, probably every great performance in those days was tainted by us being shite in the next game.

There’s a few parts to this, but a brilliant and emotional watch..

I didn’t remember Rovers hitting the bar and post whilst 1-0 up!! That day could have taken a turn for the worst!

Watch on youtube.com

Also, Sky showing they’ve always been horrible horrible pricks. City fans doing the conga in the home end - from memory it was 80% City fans in that stadium anyway, and Sky Commentators “let’s hope it’s not provocation”
