Saints Pre Match Thread

Postby City64 » Mon Mar 08, 2021 3:10 pm

The absolute shit show performance in yesterday’s derby must now be put to bed and we must return to winning ways against a struggling Saints team . Huge question marks over the form of KDB and Sterling, for me both must be dropped to the bench and Bernie and Foden MUST start . Big shout for Aguero given a start aswell it could be the perfect game for him to regain his sharpness and put the contract rumours to bed .

He will play Foden as its only Southampton and Sterling needs a little rest till the next Big game and KDB will rest as well as he also needs time to recover before th the next BIG game.

I'm just going to stop watching when Baldie puts out a shit side against a top club........probably the best course of action....I will just watch us play the shit sides with Bernie and Foden in the side.

I can't disagree. KDB was terrible yesterday.

To be fair Mahrez has been in good form albeit 3 games or so, KDB has been shit, Sterling, waster (yes I will criticise him when he plays shit). Think, him and KDB need benching and slowly integrated back into the team like with Bernie. What grates me Bernie had to work hard to get back into the team and regain form before cementing his place.

Foden and Bernie and Gundo pushing up would have caused these twats havoc. we went back to route one like last season which got sussed out and played into rags hands.

After that debacle yesterday I just hope the genius plays our strongest team in a game we need to win.

It sounds daft being critical losing one game after a 21 game winning run!!!

But it was the manner of the defeat that alarms me i.e. repeated mistakes in a big game - team selection, Brown, old reliables being selected who have not being delivered and the opposite of that i.e. players who have delivered benched.

If the lessons are learnt, then yesterday's defeat can be used as a springboard. Losing a game we can afford to lose (painful as it was to the Rags) at the expense of learning lessons that will help us in CL, LC, FA cup and closing out the PL is a price I can pay.

Let's see how it plays out starting tomorrow. First thing I want to see is Brown on the bench and Foden and Bernie starting. Same rules for all the players.

My team for tomorrow - our best players in the best formation - close thing between DeBruyne and Foden for a start though

Ederson
Walker Stones Dias Cancelo
Gundogan Rodri Bernardo
Mahrez De Bruyne Sterling

Bench: Steffen, Laporte, Ake, Zinchenko, Fernandinho, Foden, Torres, Jesus, Aguero

Neither Sterling nor KDB warrant a starting place for me. If KDB starts then Pep is as good as saying he plays every time he is not injured in the league. Leading up to the derby, Mahrez earned his place so expect him to keep it. False 9 selection against the saints or we are in for another bang your heads against 11 men behinf the ball. Fulham and BM to come so no doubt we will see plenty of rotation

So basically the same team selection for being absolutely shit against an average rags team ?
Aguero needs minutes , Foden needs to start , KDB and Sterling need benching because they were shite .

except that Bernardo & Walker are in for Zinchenko & Jesus and a different formation to get the midfield firing again.

If Foden needs to start it will be on the left with Sterling replacing KDB as I said. It was a toss up but dropping our superstar as he is getting back match fitness is not justified yet. Sterling needs to play simply because nobody else offers pace on the break.

I'd start Torres, why did we buy him if we ain't going to play him more often? I get he's not the finished article and still adapting.
Just like Bernie, I'd give him a good run to build his confidence, the kid is talented and probably better finisher than Sterling.

Said it before the derby and saying it again sterling needs a break, he cant play in this game. It has to be Foden out left.
Surely pep realises that now.

Pep doesn't seem to think he makes mistakes so it follows that he has no need to correct any

Be a tough game this, make no mistake if Pep plays same dropped bollock line up as against rags I fear worst, Foden and Bernardo must play
