UEFA getting rid of the away goal next season for CL and EL?

Postby JamieMCFC » Sat May 29, 2021 10:26 am

UEFA is on the verge of scrapping the away goals rule in two-legged European knockout ties.

A competition committee, formed by UEFA, has voted to scrap the away goals rule in a move that will drastically alter the script of future knock-out ties in the Champions League and Europa League.

Officials reached the verdict on Friday and a final decision now rests in the hands of UEFA's executive committee.

It is reported by The Times that there is a feeling that the rule is outdated, and that could mean the two Manchester clubs will be impacted ahead of next season - with both having qualified for the Champions League.

It's a landmark decision which is set to be replicated in the Europa League and Conference League.

Not a bad shout actually.
Never was a fan of away goals win (unless it was us of course! )
seriously - how the fuck does this rule even make sense...? it's harder to score at their ground because they have their fans filling the stadium and they know "their turf.... their little piece of turf" - see what i did there? .....(obviously pre Chinese pandemic days for the fucking pedants)
If it's harder to score away than home then you shouldn't be there in the first place?
fucking weird rule...
why even have 2 legs? - obviously - gimme the money syndrome.... it all about the cash...
but it works for the FA cup - best cup tournament ever! - and the world cup... so fuck off with this fannying about and just play who you got drawn against and beat the cunts - if not shut the fuck up and wait till next time....
I wish there was a way to know you are in the good old days....before you've actually left them...

yes and no.
It will affect the smaller teams, to be honest, however, I think it is a good thing for us.

An old, outdated rile thst won't be missed. Originally brought in when European competitions started up in the 1950s as travel was not as straightforward as it is now and the officials favoured partisan home crowds. Makes no difference these days.

I personally would like to see the offside rule abolished as well
