Odd Tale of Joe Hart

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Odd Tale of Joe Hart

Postby Niall Quinns Discopants » Thu Jul 22, 2021 1:13 pm

I don't understand what happened with him. I mean yeah he had some blunders but never seemed to me the type that couldn't get past stuff like that. All goalkeepers I know ( I actually grew up with one former Premier League goalkeeper and know couple of pros personally) are pretty happy-go-luck types and Hart seemed to fit that picture.

He was never going to be Pep's keeper since Pep wants his keepers to be excellent with feet but when we got rid of him I never thought he'd end up being complete garbage. I mean he should've been experienced England #1 at this stage. we are talking about four time golden glove winner with all domestic honours in his closet and 70-odd caps to boot.

So does anyone know what went on with him?
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Its very odd isnt it? I wonder too what went wrong for him. Poor choice of clubs perhaps? Got too big for his boots and stopped working?

I was never his biggest fan, i thought he did well for us at the time but once pep was appointed his days were numbered. I assumed hed end up at everton/villa/leicester level and still have a good career. If things had of panned out the way it should have he would still be englands number one. The standard of goalkeeper at the last two major tournaments for england has been dreadful.

I think the same of Micah but at least he had injuries as an excuse and chose to leave city. I always felt he should have hung around and done a John o shea type job for us and he might have been fine.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,

I never liked him since he laughed and joked with Shrek when they beat us.

Thats how fuckign stupid he is/was.

He was also overrated in my opinion...how many goals to his left did he concede in his later years with us?

He waa a decent enough keeper, normally a good shot-stopper . I remember reading a quote from Pep after Hart had kept out Dortmund at home in the chumps league virtually on his own where Pep highlighted his lack of organisatiin in letting them run through us - hard but fair
Alwsys thought he was a billy big bollocks, his love-in with rooney made me sick. He made a lot of wrong choices after keaving us,. Pickford reminds me of him

I always thought he was overrated. It wasn't just Pep that had a problem with him- Mancini did and Pellegrini but Pep had the bollocks to do something about it.
The night of the derby when he was all smiles with Shrek he went to the X Factor concert in Manchester with half of their team.
Apparently the day Pep decided he didn't want him was when he was MOTM against Peps Munich and every time he made a save he kicked it straight to one of their players.
Don't think he ever came out for a cross or corner in his life either. Pep got slaughtered by the media when he let him go. Hardly been proved wrong.

He was very nice when my 10 year old wanted a picture with him a couple of years ago when he was in a ringway bar with his mates. But yes absolutely peaked with us and benefitted from the team in front of him. Sven said it was a toss up really between him & Kasper.

Standing in the stands and watching him laughing and joking with Rooney after they’d beaten us killed me.
The barber I used to go to years ago was his best mate - by the sounds of some of the stories he had a stinking attitude. But I actually thought on his day he was quality and one of the best shot stoppers we’ve had.

I was never his fan when we had him, even when if he was decent.

I was gutted why the club chose him instead of Kasper when Sven was around, then in front of Shay Given. I don't think he was ever THAT good, but he was secure, something not many keepers are today. Also, I think Mancini's organization on the back helped him.

What I found odd was when he was told he needs to go, after playing an UCL semifinal, his best option was Torino. Never understood that. He was England's number one, so yeah, I think he might have an attitude that people in the game know about.

His loan moves didn't help.

Torino - they broke the bank to get him there, and he massively underwhelmed. That destroyed his confidence. I think it was a stupid move all around; he didn't speak the language, was totally out of their wage structure, and had never played abroad before. They're not attributes you want in a position as crucial as a goalkeeper.
West Ham - again, underwhelming. Dropped after half a season. He should have been recalled and shipped out to a Championship side, with a serious view from both the club and his representatives to ensuring he'd get a decent move that would be most likely to ensure him first-team football for a few more seasons, maybe at a club like Reading, QPR, Preston or Middlesborough.

His signing for Burnley was due to their pure desperation. They needed him for a few months, but he got a 2-year contract out of it (and, amazingly, we got £3.5 million), which might have been the best offer financially, but was a huge mistake if he wanted to attempt to resurrect his career. From then on, the writing was on the wall. He was never going to get back to fighting for a place in the first eleven at Prem level after sitting on the bench for 18 months in his early 30s.

He's only 18 months younger than Carson, so it's no crying shame that he's third choice at a decent-ish club now (and home grown rules are a godsend for English goalkeepers at the end of their careers in this respect - they get a final payday at a club challenging in Europe). The only thing is, I doubt younger players will learn anything positive from him, which is what we seem to have aimed for as a club with our third keeper policy over the past decade, with Wright and Taylor, too.

When it was clear that Hart was not gonna be in Peps plans and we were looking either to sell him or loan him, I understand that it was his wage demands that scuppered potential suitors. He was on a decent wage with us and he presumably didn’t want to decrease his salary too much. Whether that decision has ultimately cost him a playing career in the latter stages of it we will never know. But he was England’s established first choice goalie so there should have been a relatively decent scramble for his signature. And that didn’t happen. So it can reasonably be assumed it was down to either cost of the transfer fee or his salary

I know Liverpool wanted him at the time but were put off by his salary.

Good reaction keeper, poor decision maker (on field and off).

Leaving aside the whole Pep thing, for me Hart got far too over-hyped to the point where he went over the top of that classic performance chart, where performance goes downhill again if you get too hyped.

It was an England tournament and he was shouting and screaming at everyone in the tunnel let alone on the field, made a couple of blunders. I was never a fan of the hyper-loud YAYA, YAYA...... that obviously lost any effect after the 3rd or 4th time.

I did used to rate him in the early years but I genuinely thought his playing went right downhill.

Main problem with Micah always ways that he was one of those physical beasts with absolutely terrible technique and ball control. Don't get me wrong, I loved the feller but you could see that he had never really worked on his fundamentals. His upper body control when he took his first touch for example.... I've seen better 12 year olds and I'm not kidding here. Needed two or three touches to control the ball. I personally think he 100% got everything possibly out of the game with his skill level and that is definitely something to be proud of. Top notch physique and great mentality.

Micah Was amazing in the 6-1 at the swamp, his best performance of his career. Joe just failed to the sweeper keeper era, that was the start of the end. Plus the nights out with RAG players !

Didn't his noticeable decline almost perfectly coincide with him getting that shampoo advert deal, as well, or am I just imagining it?
