finishing 21/22 - 22/23 update

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

It's not an interesting debate because there is not a great deal that you can do to fix it.

You can practise and practise and practise but it will only get you so far. Even the best at the crucial moments make errors. It's just something you have to live with. Sometimes the perfectly struck shot will get saved whilst the scuffed shot goes through for a goal. It's what makes the game so unpredictable.

We do score loads cos of Pep’s genius and high quality of our players.

But just cos we score loads doesn’t necessarily mean our conversion rate is high.

If you check the conversion rates for our immediate rivals, the so-called "big 6" plus Leicester and maybe Wet Spam this year, there's practically nothing between them all. All teams score about the same percentage of the chances they create. We out-score the others because our play sets up more chances than they do. Pointless thread, imho.

Funny how in four of the last five years we have scored more than any other side in PL history, yet its barely mentioned.

They've also got the best goalie in the world, the best centre half and the best full backs yet theyve conceded loads more than us.

Bet the other teams are glad we're shit at finishing the chances we create! Get that striker signed ASAP...

11 of them v leeds and newcastle
the issue is in big games when we get fewer chances and our profligacy in front of goal comes back to bite us
pep agrees with me btw

These big games you're talking about are Palace and Southampton.
Everyone struggles against teams with 10 men behind the ball. Dippers last minute win at Wolves, Chelsea 0-0 with them.
Should Tottenham have a finishing thread with Son, Kane and Alli yesterday.

Every team in existence could have a finishing thread cos every team misses chances. It's what happens when humans are involved, strangely enough. Otherwise every match would end up with a rugby score! The fact we constantly outscore all other teams over the course of a season tells me that, despite the odd howler, we're not doing too badly. And that's good enough for me.

Exactly.

The reasons given for having such a thread means there should also be a concession thread, or goals against.

Then every time we conceded the person who made the thread could give an "I told you so" post.

It comes down to shotguns versus sniper rifles - Pep chooses the shotgun approach to creating chances because more often than not we get enough goals from them to win matches.

Yes but don't forget in addition to creating lots of chances we have the best defensive record in the PL.
If we had a clinical center forward we would be unstoppable.

To be honest I don’t give a white dog turd if he (or anyone else) misses a chance at 4-1 up in injury time in a cup tie.

He scored the important one in the first half.
